I think there's a notion that you can improve upon your intelligence by reading and so people feel as though they should read. It's hard asking people if they read, as someone who enjoys reading, because they often either lie, or start feeling inadequate for not reading.

I believe you're limited to the intelligence you're born with, unfortunately. You can increase your knowledge, but you always have the same core potential. And reading, while I'm a big fan, isn't necessary. I mean hell, mostly I read books about space marines killing aliens. I don't think anyone is under the impression that's improving my mind.
