The Vietnam war does not compare with the war in Ukraine. South Vietnam was not invaded by an outside country initially but had an internal uprising from the Viet Cong. Ukrainians are fighting ferociously against the Russians whereas many South Vietnamese were unwilling to fight. NATO tanks were not turned into scraps. Instead, the Leopard 2's are loved by the Ukrainian tank crews and feared by the Russians. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0iZYxnBCQk&t=322s The Ukrainian counteroffensive failed because they had to cross layers of fortifications including dense mine fields. Ukraine didn't have the personnel or equipment to do this. Arming Ukraine is far cheaper than having American troops fight Russia. Putin will not stop with Ukraine no more than Hitler stopped with the Sudetenland.

Putin isn't Hitler. Putin is a wise old man, simply trying to secure traditional Russian territory for his people. He certainly will stop with Ukraine, he will be too old to remain in office after his current term expires. The Russians may pursue some additional territory in the Baltics conceivably, or Moldova, but, these are tiny countries of little concern to other nations.

Hitler claimed that the territory he wanted belonged to Germany. Specifically, the Sudetenland and then the Polish Corridor. Britain and France giving Hitler the Sudetenland only encouraged him to get the Polish Corridor.
