"Christopher Poole (born c. 1988), also known online as moot, is an American internet entrepreneur and developer. He founded the anonymous English-language imageboard 4chan in October 2003, when he was still a teenager; he served as the site's head administrator until January 2015. He also founded the online community Canvas, active from 2011 to 2014."
Reading between the lines, he was apparently forced to shut down DrawQuest, despite the fact that it was doing relatively well, because the venture capitalists were not receiving a large enough return on their money. A valuable lesson lies in this for all who would start a social media site. Poole's example teaches us how NOT to raise money if we want to build something enduring.
Contrast this with a small social media site like Blue Dwarf (bluedwarf.top/cackle/about.html), which began with a mere 3000 lines of code, a curious domain name, and no investment backing whatsoever. Despite the fact that BD receives no traffic to speak of, no one is or ever will be forcing it to shut down because it is not making enough money.
