Muskrat, with his multiple accounts, follows a long line of users who attack other users here on Saidit. His recent attack on a user here in /s/Saidit was also based on false information, but no one seemed to care. They believed Muskrat's lies. Saiditors like debates, and the most popular posts are often in /s/Politics when there are controversial issues to debate. Saidit is in a unique position online to develop debates that aren't merely circle-jerks, like one sees at communities.win, etc. But inevitably a number of Saiditors will drag down the discussion into mean and stupid ad hominim. (And many users will genuinely debate; I want to appeal to you.) I don't propose any changes to the rules or their enforcement, as has been discussed for years and abused by admins and moderators. I want to note that: if you want to enjoy debates at Saidit, try not to bully users who have differences in opinion, and Saidit will grow. (I've seen dozens of reasonable users come and go in the past 2 years because of the bullies.)

              I personally am a centrist. And a lot of users don't like the idea of me leaning towards authoritarianism. I think calling Saidit a right wing circle jerk is an over-simplification. Even with the openly fascist groups, a lot of users over here, me included, downright oppose capitalism. To me the NWO is mostly a capitalist movement.

              What gets me is that a lot of us are pissed off about late stage capitalism (if i may use a Marxist term to differentiate between today and the US 1950s) while there are a lot of people here who buy into the oversimplified narratives and lies of 4 decades of GOP propaganda for the deregulation that has led to this extreme income inequality that's fucking up our lives in the US. There's more to the explanation, but in a nutshell, that's my way of seeing our similar interests on Saidit, and my concern that the considered solutions (several kinds discussed here and at DAR periodically) would nonetheless benefit only the super rich. Working with the democratic system is rarely considered viable, even if it will be difficult. And this of course is why the anti-democratic rhetoric of the right sounds so good to many here.

                2 years ago is exactly when everyone outside the SJW cult was radicalized to the alt-right in response to the former burning Minneapolis to the ground over mostly non-existent racism among the police.                     Saidit currently is a mirror image of Reddit when it was younger, before corporate interests took over discourse.                     So when a self-proclaimed free speech site pops up, of course they will be ultra right. Where else would they go?                         Meh, It's true that people should make an effort to raise the level of discourse, but I've been in far worse places that Saidit. I think one of the main issues right now is how the front page is constantly being manipulated. With more interesting content people have more themes to talk about. This is something that can be countered by the community itself, just group upvote the good posts, it would make the job of the shills way harder. However, /u/magnora7 something needs to be done to repress the accounts engaging in vote manipulation. I'm not saying that we should just use force right away but something needs to be done about it. What do you think we can do to help as a community? Recently socks and/or Phoenix was seen by Muskrat engaging in vote manipulation, I'm sure there's something that can be done against that.

                        I agree this is a problem, and why a forum that has no votes but still uses the reddit format may be a new thing to try on the next forum.

                        The fake upvoting problem is an issue, and the real deal is these people have infinite IP addresses and can spoof their browser credentials. I've made scripts that detect activity like logging in and out to too many accounts too quickly, but even these rules can only block a certain IP. And if they have a completely different IP address every single time they make a page request, then there is literally no way to block them.

                        We at least have it fixed so when a user is banned from saidit, their votes go away as well, which helps remove the effects of vote manipulation. But the reality is, they just keep creating accounts with unique credentials each time, and so I have no way to differentiate those accounts from the accounts of regular users other than the behavior of the account... I have done some work developing algorithms good at detecting accounts that vote too quickly all together on a the same post or comment, and then autobanning all those accounts. But the result is they just make 10 more new accounts every time. This has been going on for years and I'm honestly not sure how to better engage it than we already are. I am open to suggestions, but also the amount of programming work necessary to get marginal improvements on this issue is rather steep.

                        We also built the block buttons, so posts by known troublemakers can be blocked by the users. We've really given the issue a fair shot many times over, but the real problem is that the vote system will exist to gamed in the first place. Another idea I had is to make a forum that limits the number of IP addresses a user can have, using the fact that the browser credentials and IP are randomized every time as a giveaway to shill activity. The problem is many VPNs mimic this behavior as well so it's again tough to differentiate between shills and normal users. Which is of course what they are trying to do, to pretend to be normal users while hijacking the information stream.

                        I think the real answer is a no-vote forum, where the threads are sorted by who left the last comment, old school style. But even this can be hijacked with enough volume. I really hate to say it but the text-based forum is in trouble because I have been thinking seriously for 5 years about this issue and I don't have a better solution than what we currently have. So many forums have failed because of it. Any better solution requires a team of people working 24/7 to monitor each post and comment individually as it arises, which is a ridiculous amount of work that requires a ridiculous amount of money. We have 10 volunteer content admins which helps but it only goes so far.

                        Anyway, if people have ideas, I'm listening.

To be honest I'm even skeptical of letting admins see that information, and imo there's absolutely no reason they need to be able to see what someone saved. And preferrably deleted content is either wiped off the server completely or only visible to the author.

I don't know another way to do it though. I'm just looking through all the stuff now that got absolutely ignored because of this nonsense hogging up the front page.

                                i have not debated much, but sure, there are those whose mind will never be changed. but if speaking to someone, make them question their views. maybe that could help them change their mind on their own. i think most people realize certain truths at different degrees of realization or maybe don't realize at first, but later on experiences changes their view to realize truth and not propaganda.

                                Yup, they sure do! It's pretty easy to pick them out, they're the ones that post mean and stupid content just to be disruptive. They also defend the power structure against criticism, something nobody would ever do without being paid.

                                  Not ignoring so much as can't do anything about it beyond what has already been done... I can remove accounts all day but they can just keep making new ones and after 5 years it's at a stalemate as they appear to have infinite time and interest in doing this. I am open to new ideas about how to deal with this if anyone has any

                                  The whole idea is to grind us down and make us abandon what we're doing. Don't let the bastards win. A good step in the right direction would be the "block" function not letting the shills see any of your posts. This would really hurt them, and when they made new accounts, those get blocked too. It would go a long way towards locking them out of shitting on the quality content that Saidit treasures.

                                    I don't think saidit is a right-wing circle jerk, but it does lean a little that way since there isn't any other places to go. I personally lean left, or at least lean towards egalitarianism. There are a lot of right-wing views but there hasn't seemed to be to much closed mindedness (aside from maybe a rew). Also there are "left leaning" people that call out the hypocrisy of "the left". They get labeled as "right wing" and get censored. So there is a chance for well rounded debates to take place. There are idiots everywhere, so there are bound to be some on saidit that have too much time on their hands and shit post a lot. I just wish we had more hobby post and subs outside of politics that reddit had.

                                            I couldn't agree more. I was hoping for more reason and less baiting, put-downs, and name-calling when I came here. That was naive. : /

                                            There are good topical subs, music subs, etc. but news and politics subs are a hot mess. For having a different view, and for pleading for reason, I got told to eat sh!t. Sigh.

                                            It can sometimes be challenging to walk a centre line without taking sides or to hold a differing opinion without running into conflict, but most here speak freely and honestly. That's to be respected. I like Muskrat, and I like most people I've met here even if some don't like me. So yeah, I agree that we shouldn't encourage bullying, but I don't consider to be Muskrat a bully. Stay chilled and enjoy the occasional shitpost to break up the seriousness of the news and politics subs.

                                            Today I see the lefties complaining this place is too right wing and the righties complaining about a left wing takeover. Both threads are high on the front page. Everyone's being a whiny bitch, so this gives me confidence that this site is striking about the correct centrist, free speech prioritizing balance for my tastes.
