Does the Declaration of Independence violate SaidIt rules?
submitted 3 years ago by fschmidt from (self.SaidIt)
The Declaration of Independence was basically a call to violent revolution against England. So it is at the bottom of SaidIt's Pyramid of Debate. So would posting the Declaration of Independence and advocating its position be a violation of SaidIt's rule against dragging discussion in a downward direction on the Pyramid of Debate?

It wasn't directly a call to violence, the Brits could have just given up their colony.

So is a call for a war for secession okay?

Well, why just not call for secession.

"Advocating violence" basically just means telling people to go commit some act of violence. I wouldn't lump in supporting an act of violence that happened hundreds of years ago. If you're saying "we need to do that again" then, yeah, that might count, but if you're just supporting it: you should be fine — but if you support, say, lynching a Black man: that could count, even if you ain't saying it should happen again, but I ain't sure.
It's pretty hard to find where to draw the line. u/Magnora7 u/d3rr what do yall think?

I got enough real problems to make decisions on every day that I really don't need to be delving in to hypotheticals
