Because it's a nice talking point, but sadly most people don't actually believe in it. They don't want their views censored of course, but when the shoe's on the other foot, only a minority take a principled stance on it. The left is no less hypocritical of course, look how they react with mock horror at "banning" books (actually just removing them from elementary school libraries) while doing their damnedest to promote censorship online.
