how do i tell if companies are actually good

i'm looking for places to shop and reading "oh we support the environment, carbon neutral offsets, blah blah" and it all looks so nice, but then I thought about the corbett report thing someone shared on here and it looks sinister now.

I don't know what to think about these anymore!

This is mostly a rant but feel free to suggest non-creepy places I can shop for the basics if you know any that are loud and proud about not being creepy.

For the most part there is no such thing as a 'good' company. Every corporation has one goal above all others, and it isn't 'do good' (or 'bad' for that matter), its 'be profitable'. Some may be doing something good, but that's always secondary to make a profit. This is just the nature of our system of economic incentives
