Maybe you're here to learn a lesson, like rising above Lucifer's shit show dominion. Maybe your brain is too big. I don't see raccoons bitching about eating garbage for a living.

[–]Vulptex[S] 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Raccoons also don't have talking voice boxes or keyboards to bitch with.

My brain probably is too big. And also so messed up that I can't ever make peace with myself. But still smart enough to not be able to digest the blue pills most people use to cope.

Whatever you've done wrong or perceived to have done wrong, forgive yourself. It sounds weird if you haven't done before, but believe me, it is fantastic. It allows you to let go of the past so you can do more now. You may be overthinking.

[–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

That won't fix anything. It's almost all beyond my control.

Then leave your situation.

You need to take responsibility for you life as it is now and going forward.

You do have control over your own life. You live in a free country.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something. If you fuck up that's tough but at least it's your fuck up and you're not just someone else's collateral.

I can't just leave my situation. It follows me wherever I go.

Accept Jesus Christ as your saviour, see what others who are similar to you, that came before you in this world, did to alleviate their pain, emulate their steps. You cannot find peace, freedom nor satisfaction in this world without Him.

I was like this...until I got into this: https://www.thebiggestpicture.net/DMT

Check the boundaries of reality, there are crucial details suppressed by culture and modern society. These realizations will knock your socks off and change the perspective. It's healthy to let this out, thanks for the post.

I'm well aware of the matrix. But it must have me under tight mind control, seeing as I can't even alter my own dreams. Even having free thoughts is hard, it's like it's all blocked and I just can't quite formulate anything that's not being fed to me. And there's no way to wake yourself up. I'm probably part of that mystery 5%.

People who've disappeared after finding out about the matrix usually mention something about it being a thought experiment. If that's the case I'm definitely being studied.

Have you watched this? Not exactly "the matrix", but it helps explain why everything in society seems so fucked up.

The downside is it may make things seem more hopeless than ever, but knowing is half the battle.

In my case it's probably to be miserable.

    [–]Zapped 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

It can be as simple about perspective. When I concentrate on the bad, I don't see the good. When I'm focused on the present problems, it's hard for me to see the payoff.

Remember that goals have 4 parts: 1. Have a specific outcome in mind. 2. Have some way to measure your progress or final plan. 3. Has to be realistic. 4. Has to have a time limit or time-frame in which to accomplish the goal.

If you don't have this plan, then your goals are only a wish and you are leaving your future and happiness to other people. Take control, even if it seems too hard. Change your goals if your are stuck in a cycle from which you can't break free.

    [–]Vulptex[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

    Has to be realistic.

This is the problem. A happy life isn't realistic in my case.

I dunno, why not? Do you have something better to do?

Look, many of us have been so unhappy we've wanted to suicide to stop the suffering. Those of us replying to you obviously didn't. Things change. Even if you don't believe you'll feel differently someday, you will. And of course it feels impossible while you're still feeling like this. That's just how it works.

    [–]LarrySwinger2 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (12 children)

Do you have friends? Maybe spend more time with them and enjoy the simple things in life. If you regularly do something fun to which you can look forward, your mood will improve.

    [–]Vulptex[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

The simple things in life used to be my favorite. Too bad my brain doesn't comprehend them anymore.

    That's something you can choose.

You can choose to look at the autumn leaves and appreciate them or not.

That's a blue pill. I've tried so hard to enjoy or even notice those things again. But no dice. My brain or the matrix controlling it hates me.

    [–]jet199Instigatrix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, you have got yourself in bad mental habits.

You need to be tough with yourself to quit them and stop begging for sympathy on here.

    [–]LarrySwinger2 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Okay, but what are those things you look forward to? Is it spending time with friends?

Maybe add some variety to your life. Find new hobbies, meet new people.

    [–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Everything. Imagine a drug that, instead of making you euphoric, makes you depressed and irritated constantly. And takes away almost every positive feeling, even dulling your physical senses, and takes away all your talent so you can't do any hobbies at all.

Except it's not a drug. It's your brain.

    Have you tried professional help?

    [–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I'm trying to look into it but it's easier said than done. And they can only do so much for me.

    [–]Zapped 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You may not be as "odd" as you think and a professional will be able to zero in on what's going on with your mental state and give advice on how to get you where you need to be. If nothing else, they offer a way for you to verbalize and visualize what's going on in your head. This may lead you to an "a-ha" moment.

From a Buddhist perspective, which I take, EVERYONE IS SUFFERING. First you learn to meditate, which means to take clear, quiet, non-judgmental, look at something. And then look at, meditate on, your suffering. Clutch it too your chest instead of pushing it away. The suffering will lessen and it contains the seeds of ecstasy.

    [–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

That's never helped me. Nothing that works for most people works for me.

    [–]Views 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Very few people engage in a genuine meditation practice because done right, meditation leads directly into the pain that we all naturally try to avoid. Being open to absolutely whatever presents itself to our mind through whatever pathway (physical senses or generated by the mind itself) is a lifetime practice and is never easy. "Most people" who begin to sense the pain that must be moved through at that point drop their practice. "This isn't helping! It's making things worse!" is the common reaction. For those lucky few who persevere, however, the realization awaits that "worse" and "better" don't in reality exist and never did.

Re: ecstasy. Ecstasy is a temporary phenomenon like all are in the universe. It's wonderful when present and there's no reason to avoid it, but that said, be careful not to be surprised by the comedown from that state. While the more famous line of thought from Siddhartha, as said here, is "Suffering is universal", I find more power in another of his ideas: All is impermanent. Absolutely everything.

This was posted on saidit a while back. It seems appropriate to your suffering.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBBhxrJYsU4

I know can never ever heal...

From personal experience, I promise you that you don't actually know that. The reason I say that is because in my past the same thought was firmly implanted in my ideography for years. I also was borderline suicidal for a very long time. Having passed through it to the point where I am now, I can tell you that I have no idea how it happened, but that to a large extent it's out of our control. I came to a relatively happier place - though I'm still somewhat of an "internal Eeyore" - with a combination of two inputs: first, I recognized that there is nothing inherently wrong with being at the bottom of the "happiness pyramid". In other words, from a universal perspective, those suffering the most are absolutely equally necessary to the equation of life as are those who are the happiest. Without the sufferers like you, there is no balance. You are equally important to the universe no matter where on the scale you lie simply because you exist, just as everyone and everything else on the scale exists. That is in truth all that matters. Second, interactions in my social life started happening that I still don't understand. I would find myself doing things that weren't "me". I don't know why I did them, and I haven't done them since. But for reasons that are mysterious to me to this day, I found interactions that began to "move me up the ladder". I didn't consciously "choose" to behave differently; it's almost as though it happened to me. For these experiences among others, I am open at a profound level - though I won't say I know it to be true - but I am open to the idea of predestination. Sometimes mysterious patterns emerge inexplicable even to the author of those patterns.

I wish you the best. It's a rough road, but if you are lucky enough to find your way to a more open perspective, you'll find a beauty that I believe to be unavailable to those who have never suffered as you have. The suffering makes the beauty found through it significantly more powerful and meaningful.

    I bow to you.

    [–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I promise you that you don't actually know that

I do, because I suffer from lots of permanent conditions.

In other words, from a universal perspective, those suffering the most are absolutely equally necessary to the equation of life as are those who are the happiest. Without the sufferers like you, there is no balance.

    Fuck balance then.

I would find myself doing things that weren't "me"

I get that too, and I think it's because of the matrix's mind control system. We have the illusion of choice, but in reality even our own thoughts are moderated by outsiders.

you'll find a beauty that I believe to be unavailable to those who have never suffered as you have. The suffering makes the beauty found through it significantly more powerful and meaningful.

Every single time I think I'm about to, it disappears.

Every single time I think I'm about to [find a beauty that I believe to be unavailable to those who have never suffered as you have], it disappears.

Same happens when you're looking for some object you've lost. Until you finally find it. Sometimes you don't, or it takes years, but it usually turns up at some point.

You’re the only one who can make that “unbelievable” turn. It’s easier than you think and you’re more in control than you give yourself credit.

If that were true, the world would be a whole lot different. I can't control anything about my reality thanks to the matrix, which clearly hates me for some reason.

you naysay every single bit of advice anyone gives you

Because it doesn't work. I'm not dealing with the usual. Most of it is my brain literally being wired for misery.

What do you expect/want us to say?

It's hopeless. I'm desperately looking for a way out, even when I know there isn't one.

What did I do for this to happen to me?

Why not live in denial and “fake it til you make it?”

That's how most people cope. But the blue pills don't work on me.

But how would you know what happiness feels like if you’ve never felt pain?

Doesn't mean pain needs to consume me.

        If you’d deny yourself happiness

        I don't, it's withheld from me.

why can’t you deny the pain of existence?

Again, the blue pills don't work on me. Well actually they work really well, because the matrix completely controls me, but you know what I mean, I can't deny reality like some people.

I used to sound like you do. I'm not pretending that you can necessarily do the same but I think what saved me is learning to enjoy watching the world burn.

Besides that, lowering your cost of living and getting good with money certainly help alleviate the daily stress of survival.

Buy yourself a motorcycle. Irresponsible as hell but fun as fuck. A lot cheaper to insure and use. Doesn't matter if you die if you don't care. You don't even need a big one, a CBR250R would suffice. It's also a project you can work on, learn about, etc etc. It will make you feel alive man.

Why work if you don't like it?

Why not be a welfare queen?

The fact is people will choose meaning over happiness every time.

You work because you want a meaningful life but you obviously aren't giving enough of your time to what you actually care about.

Either change job to something you'll be proud of or start doing more of the things you personally care about in your spare time. You appreciate crappy jobs more when the money pays for the stuff you actually want to do.

I mean if you really feel that bad why not throw it in and just spend your whole life enjoying yourself, go out and find good things rather than waiting for them to happen. You can leave off worrying about being a burden until the money runs out.

          [–]Vulptex[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Why work if you don't like it?

It's not working a job that's the problem, in fact I'm still in uni. It's just the amount of effort required to pull through each day and survive, all for another day that's more likely than not going to be a bad one. And my energy and patience is running out.

Why not be a welfare queen?

For one I don't believe that's moral. Two, I'm actually not a woman (although I really wish I was).

The fact is people will choose meaning over happiness every time.

          Shouldn't meaning lead to happiness?

start doing more of the things you personally care about in your spare time

Yeah, that's kind of the problem because not only is my stupid brain so messed up that it can't do anything right, but even if it could I'm incapable of enjoying anything or feeling more than the slightest positive things. Even my physical senses don't give me anything vibrant anymore.

I mean if you really feel that bad why not throw it in and just spend your whole life enjoying yourself, go out and find good things rather than waiting for them to happen.

Because that's not the problem. I'm incapable of enjoying myself, because my brain is so bad. A lot more of happiness is hardwired than anyone likes to admit, but I'm hard to bluepill.

          [–]jet199Instigatrix 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Uni is hard because you are isolated and all the breeder burden is on you. You don't get support like you do when working in a team.

If you think you're smart it's easy to think you should do everything on your own to prove how great you are but that's not good for either mental health or your career long term.

You need to access the support you do have. Go talk to someone, work somewhere public like the library rather than in your room, etc.

The fact is uni is a short term thing. The world of work is not anything like that.

I also have naturally low happiness. But that just means I constantly think about putting myself in the way of what makes me happy (which is not always an immediate feeling). Certainly walking in green spaces once a day does great things over time.

And no meaning doesn't always lead to happiness, it's a different feeling. One is joy in the moment the other makes you want to keep going.

          [–]Vulptex[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Uni isn't the problem at all. It's my head. I could walk into heaven right now and still feel just barely good. It isn't that much work to survive, but it's awful when you're so burnt out and know that you're probably only earning another bad day.

          [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Can I have your body when you're dead? Mine hurts, could use a new one. Always seems like such a waste when people kill themselves with pain free bodies.

On a more serious note (I mean unless they can do full body transplants then I'm totally not joking), -- and yes this is actually serious advice: A little bit drunk is better than dead.

We usually focus on the lives we lose to alcohol, it's certainly not an ideal option, but nobody ever talks about the people who were going to kill themselves anyways and didn't because they drank the pain away.

You just need to hold out, I think there's something about brain development that makes young teens and adults depressed. I was too back then.

What's the point of living if you have no chance of a happy life?

I am grateful I never killed myself, I experienced lots of awesome things I could never have foreseen. You don't know you don't have a chance.

          [–]Vulptex[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Can I have your body when you're dead? Mine hurts, could use a new one. Always seems like such a waste when people kill themselves with pain free bodies.

I wish it worked that way, because my body isn't pain free for me, but I'm sure plenty would want to trade.

You just need to hold out, I think there's something about brain development that makes young teens and adults depressed. I was too back then.

I agree, but I also have deeper problems that will affect me for life. Maybe they won't be as bad after the depression spell is over, I remember being mostly okay as a kid too. But that depends how much of it is linked to gender dysphoria, and I worry that I just don't like the new way my mind and body work.

You don't know you don't have a chance.

          gender dysphoria

Maybe you've been unwittingly influenced by a social contagion. I spend zero time contemplating my gender, it just is. Now all the young people are questioning their gender. It correlates with social media.

Reason 420 being a man is awesome: nobody expects you to suck their dick when you smoke their weed.

I don't believe those kids have gender dysphoria for a second. They have snowflake syndrome, and their whole agenda of "gender is a feeling and a spectrum and it's about gender roles and there's 37221409387732561472896179637823 genders" is actually pretty dismissive towards transsexuals. As are the perverts who want to use the other sex's bathroom and people who want to cheat in sports. Meanwhile I've had issues with my actual sexually dimorphic features since I was very young, even though it took me way longer than it should've to figure out that's what they were. If anything these crazy people held me back because I could never relate to them.

Reason 420 being a man is awesome: nobody expects you to suck their dick when you smoke their weed.

I'd argue it's actually the other way around, seeing as men get blamed for everything while women walk free for rape and assault. But regardless it's not the social role I hate, it's my biology, and if I were dropped in the wilderness alone I'd still have the same problem. But thanks to the woke culture this is erased by the abusers and tumblr snowflakes.

I think you suffering for depression. I've always been suffering for neuroticism and anxiety which has hindered me from enjoying life. In the end, life is short, it isnt like we're going to be here forever. So the point in life is to use this existence to do stuff we like as much as we can and if our brain stops us from getting peace, maybe take some meds.

Do whatever the fuck your wanna do man. Some people think they need a purpose. Some people think they need to be happy.

I like fucking, and movies, and hiking. Reading chats. I’m not really happy all the time.

Maybe you feel you need to be a serial killer? I dunno man.

You don’t need to be happy.

Just go live your experience. Don’t try to be happy. Just live.

What do you like to do?

          If you wanna die:

I would consider a trash bag, with a helium tank open and running into it, and then you rubber band it around your head. Your body doesn’t know it’s about to pass out. Then it takes like 20 mins, after passing out.

Completely painless, and your body is preserved for burial. Your family can say a proper good bye. Alternatively, you could make a political statement in DC.

a bit of trivia about those that decide to use helium as an exit method... umm.. those "party time" helium canisters, they used to work.. until the company decided to put something like 20% oxygen into it which makes it not deadly, lol..

if somebody wanted to do that, they would need to obtain a more pure supply of helium.

but dont kill yourself, not anyone, i tried many times...

          peace.

The point of living is not to be happy. If it were, then it would not be a universal truth that suffering is woven into the very fabric of life. But of course, suffering is not as arbitrary as it may appear. Pain, no matter how great or small, exists to send you a message. When you experience hunger pangs, you get the message to find food. When you put your hand on a hot stove, you get the message to remove it. When you experience psychological pain, it means some condition of your life isn't right and you need to take steps to change it. One can always mitigate suffering, but pain can never be done away with entirely; it will plague you and everyone else every moment of your existence. A big part of overcoming its downward pull is by simply accepting this as fact, in accordance with the central tenants of Buddhism and the Christian prescription to "pick up your cross." It is no coincidence that both religions have instruments of torture as the primary symbols of their faith.

As far as the "point" of your life, no one can tell you that. In a way, no one's individual life has any "point." After all, how many animals exist only to be food sources for other animals? How many millions of organisms do you murder each time you take a step or a breath or swallow? How many people die in senseless accidents every day? Life feeds on life and life exists only for its own sake. It enfolds and expands beyond you, and I would say that the true point of life is to stand in awe of that, to know that life only feels painful because you view yourself through much too small a lens, because you see yourself as a separate being rather than a miniscule atom in a much larger, all-encompassing being.

When you experience psychological pain, it means some condition of your life isn't right and you need to take steps to change it

And there are many, and almost none of them can be changed.

Not all conditions of your life are external. Read Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. The man found ways to alter the conditions of his life from within a concentration camp.

There is no point in living if you have no chance at a happy life. But you almost certainly do have a chance that you just can't see. Anxiety disorders can cause your mind to only briefly focus on the good and linger on the bad. Might be worth looking into.

Happiness is coming when Jesus returns in a few years after the great tribulation. The point of this world is not be happy, not since man was kicked out of paradise. We live in a battle ground but the devil has convinced most people this life is a playground. Most people are willing to sin and reject Jesus because the devil convinces them it will make them happy. But it's a trap to take them in hell with him. Some religions enforce the idea that life is just a giant playground where God is playing with himself, and if you do what authorities tell you to, you'll be reborn in the next life with more toys.

          [–]Vulptex[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

And those authorities also invented hell. If you go back to the original languages and cultures you can see that the earliest Christians knew of no such place.

Do your best to be self-reliant, self-sufficient, and helpful, and accept help in kind with much thanks and without shyness.

Analyze the things that are subjectively important and inspirational to you, focus on these deeper meanings, cultivate them, find purpose, work hard on these passions, and through all the perpetual suffering you'll find deeper joy, fulfillment, and well being that transcends the pain and all the ephemeral and fleeting happiness.

Live in gratitude, live with compassion, and find grace in the journey, not the destination. Keep aiming for zen.

Basically you need purpose and meaning for true happiness (this isn't new news), see: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/01/theres-more-to-life-than-being-happy/266805/

And most people overwhelmingly find meaning in family (nothing new here either): https://www.pewforum.org/2018/11/20/where-americans-find-meaning-in-life/

For the vast majority of the existence of life on earth, having offspring, who almost all parents declare are the most important things in their lives, more important in many cases that life itself, was pretty inevitable. Now it's a choice, and people are trying to replace having kids with just Easier happy shit. And now a lot of people aren't happy any more. What a surprise.
