The left is anti-health with the "fat acceptance" movement, which is just a front to make Americans less healthy. We shouldn't bully and harass people for being unhealthy, but we should also realize that these people have a problem — a medical problem that needs serious and immediate attention.

If you eat a bag and a half of candy every single day, you have a problem. It's important to note that this man was, according to the article, 54 years old. It's quite possible many, if not all, of the conditions the article claims he had where pre-existing.

hypertension, hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, fatal arrhythmias, and renal failure

Hypertension is high blood pressure, and a lot of people have it, especially older folks, which can cause cardiac arrest, Hypokalemia is potassium deficiency, is usually caused by a poor diet, and can cause high blood pressure; Alkalosis often causes a potassium deficiency and can be caused by repeated vomiting; and renal failure is a fancy term for kidney failure, and can be caused by uncontrolled hypertension.

I'm not a doctor, but according to my research this man didn't die from licorice alone. This man died from kidney failure caused by Bulimia. He maintained an unhealthy diet and it killed him. They use all these fancy terms and list out multiple conditions, but in reality they're all caused by bulimia. Bulimia -> Alkalosis -> Potassium deficiency -> high blood pressure -> kidney failure & cardiac arrest.

If he was, indeed, Bulimic this should have been made known, however, doing so would contradict their anti-licorice narrative, because the left believes that it's not the fault of the person, but rather the fault of the means. They blame guns for crime instead of criminals, and this logic carries over to candy — in a rare instance of the left being consistent.

That's just my conclusion. I may be wrong. If a professional could analyze my conclusion and reasoning perhaps we could get to the bottom of this.

I was about to post neuroscientist comments on the neurolitic/neuroprotective properties of licorice

t.rona is most defenitely, imo, a neurodegenerative disease, with initial infection via nose, then a battle between demyelination and myelination in the immune system free brain.

That's why hcq and zinc works, and why adrenochrome / cocaine abusers and old people die (existing neuropathy).

Coronaviruses are used by neuroscientists as Multiple Sclerosis disease models

Natural treatments are plentiful. Omega 3 and zinc, vital.

too much licorice will kill you, due to blood pressure / heart effects

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Too much of anything will kill you.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

True but people with heart conditions such as myself do have to be careful with it. That's only real licorice too, not the twizzlers stuff.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah, yeah. People with health conditions got'o be careful.

adrenochrome

The... fictionalized drug from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? I mean it exists, it's a real thing, it just doesn't do what Thompson claimed, that's part of his Gonzo style of journalism. Nobody uses it recreationally so it's not a black market drug. I mean, hell, it's legal.

[–]Dial-up-tone 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Really? How do you know so much about it you can be certain nobody uses it?

He is the eye in the sky, he can see your mind.

I'm a fan of Thompson's work. Adrenochrome as a recreational substance was only ever bullshit he made up. Whoever led you to believe it's a real drug is a very gullible individual.

if you torture animals before eating them, it puts adrenaline into their blood, which becomes adrenochrome when you eat it.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You have a reliable source on that? As far as I know there is no business for torturing animals before slaughtering them, and there's no market for adrenochrome since it's not a valuable substance for drug users or otherwise.

Honestly this all sounds like stupid bullshit only foolish people would fall for.

there's a huge market for adrenochrome. WHO code B02BX02 for the carboxylated version, used in regulating blood.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/yulin-dog-meat-festival-video-china-blow-torch-animal-cruelty-a8969361.html

for the torturing of animals alive before eating them, something quite big in China's 'wet' markets generally.

From wikipedia: Adrenochrome is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C9H9NO3 produced by the oxidation of adrenaline (epinephrine). The derivative carbazochrome is a hemostatic medication.

torturing animals produces adrenaline (epinephrine, same roots, different language, 'on top of kidney hormone') https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4598702/

QED

the idea of people abusing adrenochrome for the sake of it is something I made no comment on, merely the availablity of it in meat.

Finally, I fucking hate licorice. Diss the shit out of it people.

You all know Twizzlers was the candy you dreaded to see in your Halloween bag and the only part of your stash that lasted till thanksgiving.

For those with high blood pressure it's obviously dangerous. Glycyrrhizin is known to elevate blood pressure. But the person who died for it obviously ate liquorice instead of food.

[–]the-ham-bummer 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I like pure liquorice, indeed it elevates blood pressure but it seems to me linearly with dosage, I think caffeine and salt behave more erratically. Personal idea, not medical advice, beware.

Licorice raises your BP by making you dump potassium.

Link

It and honeysuckle have both been shown to have antiviral effects of assorted coronaviruses including SARS. Also against flu viruses.

My meds cabinet has both in it. If I feel myself coming down with anything I start dosing.

Licorice tea is cheap, tastes awful, but it seems to help.

If you're going to use it put a teaspoon of that low sodium salt into your food. Problem solved.

I think the fact idiots can easily OD and kill themselves is why it's not pushed.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, but there is such a thing as deglyrricidized (I am sure I mangled that) licorice. I use it daily for my stomach ulcer.

EDIT: The bottle says "Deglycyrrhizinated".
