I'm sure the medical industry in the US is getting further corrupted by the stablisment, this is a good reminder of how much the pharmaceutical companies are willing to manipulate people for better profits.

The GlaxoSmithKline group was fined with $3bn after bribing doctors into encouraging the prescription of the wrong drugs in order to increase their own benefit. Including antidepressants for children.

The article calls them sales reps but I always heard them called drug reps and many places now ban them, thank god.

There's an easy way to tell, drug reps are where doctors get their free samples from. If your doctor is giving you a free sample he's had dealings with drug reps and possibly incentives to prescribe their medications.

Or they're pretty obvious if you see them. Drug reps are normally attractive women showing cleavage who will be pulling a rolling suitcase of samples. I heard they like hiring former cheerleaders to be drug reps.

And also a sad reminder than only GSK was held accountable. This was standard practice, I can't imagine how they picked just one company to go after.
