If you want to check out the swiss server for yourself, you can go to www.saidit.dev, but this is just for curiosity's sake. Things posted there will 100% be overwritten by the database replacements in a few days, so don't bother posting or doing anything there, it will be erased.

And if you're wondering, all the posts and comments there are bot-generated by software that came with the reddit open source software. They're kind of funny to read tbh. They're pretty bad in terms of being convincing conversationalists. I think they grab content from the front page of reddit.com at the moment you run the script and just randomly cut it up. But the script makes 50 bot users who all post a few to a dozen random posts and comments, to test out if all the software is working correctly. But what they say is so goofy sometimes, haha

Anyway, thought someone might get a kick out of that behind-the-scenes look while we finish setting things up

So does this mean that Saidit is now subject to Europe's speech restriction laws? Because if so, then I may as well go back to reddit.

Switzerland is not in the EU, so no, saidit is not subject to Europe's speech restriction laws. This is one of the main reasons we chose Switzerland. They are neutral and independent and offer saidit the most freedom of any country, based on our research.

Swissieland signed the Schengen Agreement with the EU. Brussel might wake up on the wrong side of the bed one day and demand speech regulation and force it upon the participants. Swiss voted for EU gun law just recently.

I tried to tellem but the federalist have no concept of how Schengen works because since Switzerland is seemingly not in the EU they're completely unrelated to them.

Thanks for that information. If that does happen and we run in to problems, we can always just go back to Dallas. But overall it should offer us more freedom.

Which server hosting are you using? I wonder if they would be cheaper than my VPS in Los Angeles (for making a VPN, mostly; I do almost everything else on my own servers).

Why does this even matter? Unless YOU move to Switzerland too, saidit is still based in the US, and will still be subject to DMCA and all other US laws exactly the same as it was before.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The laws that apply to the server apply to where it is hosted, not where the owners are located.
