We had a DDOS attack that overloaded the server. We now have everything set up properly so that it can no longer take down the server. That's basically what happened.

We had our DDOS protection mostly set up, but didn't know how to use it exactly because we had never suffered a DDOS attack before. Now we know how to use it.

Yes it seems based on some loose evidence I've gathered that a group didn't like the new OnA group that came to saidit, and DDOS'd saidit in an attempt to silence them.

Now I feel morally obligated to support OnA, even though I have zero interest in their community.

could it just be that the newcomers overloaded the servers and the ddos was unintentional? i can't imagine OnA having that many enemies

No it's definitely intentional, the IP addresses that had 20+ connections (instead of the usual 1 or 2) all have the same first 6 numbers.

I guess they do have enemies like that. I think that's why they got banned from reddit. They got targeted. Then to "further the ban" they DDOS'd saidit. That's what seems to have happened.

I saw Miami, Virginia, Toronto, Russia, and a few others. It was all over the map, almost certainly a VPN

      No it was a related issue to part of the defenses we deployed from the attack yesterday. But it's all sorted out now.

      When I can't open the page yesterday,I thought it's DDoS...It looked like DDoS,especailly the admin of the site pissed off some mentals.
