YAY!! Welcome back Magnora7!! Welcome back everyone! Welcome Back Kotter - Theme Song

Thanks, welcome back to you too!

I'm glad it was a billing issue, that is easy to fix compared to other possible issues. It took a little while to get back online, but we should be thankful server guy did all this for free for us, which he did right after working a 12 hour shift rebuilding a physical server farm (which is why we had to wait a little bit, he was already quite busy for a paying client). It's honestly incredible that between me and d3rr and server guy, that we've built all this without any of us ever being paid one cent, and 3 years in to this saidit is still able to recover from shutdown problems within a matter of hours. I think it's something to be proud of that we have this level of stability, and today was a test of that.

Anyway, glad we're back! Cheers. Now it's time to relax and have fun. We've got a full year pre-paid so we should be problem free for a while.

Does Saidit have a Monero donation address?

[–]magnora7[S] 10 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 3 fun -  (16 children)

No, unfortunately I've tried to set it up twice, putting in several hours each time, and the Monero wallet is a trainwreck and I don't have any crypto exchanges that can do Monero, so I have no way to exchange it back in to BTC or USD. So no Monero at the moment, sorry. Thanks for the offer though.

We do accept donations in Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash. Donation addresses are here, and donations are greatly appreciated especially since I just bought $1200 of server time: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/jf/cryptocurrency_support_for_saiditnet/

You should look into integrating BAT (Brave browser) with saidit. People can easily tip with that thing and they get the crypto for free just for using the browser which has a bunch of privacy stuff built into it, it seems like the best browser at the moment.

It's chromium-based :/

[–]magnora7[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

I believe d3rr did that already, and we have built up like $13 worth of BAT tokens or whatever in the last 2 years. So it hasn't been a huge boon, but it's there, I believe.

[–]Markimus 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah you have to click the address bar triangle thing to set it up kind of manually, it's not really noticeable even to Brave users. I would recommend having something more visible for supporters in the Saidit banner or something. A link to a page that has every way of donating, including BAT that is easily accessible from any page on the site. When I used to use Shitjude Bitchute, they had a monthly goal donation pot thing, something like that could work.

I've had the browser for 6 months and I have about 3 times as much as that alone, 100 regular users in the US/Canada/UK could quite easily fund this site without them even paying a penny if they just each hedged 1 BAT per month to this site.

Guys on this site are very libertarian and privacy orientated so I think "shilling" Brave and making it part of the Saidit culture is the way to go really. The main points of Brave are this:

  • Users earn money for using the browser < everyone loves this

  • Users have privacy online < Saidit users love this

  • Users get an easy entrance into crypto < people who aren't in already love this

  • Users can very easily give some of their BAT to creators, websites etc they support through the crypto with literally 0 effort < everyone loves this

I've said this for years.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Oh. No worries, it seems more effort than it's worth. I do remember we spent quite some time messing with it. Maybe someday we'll set it up. D3rr was the one who would know the most about the BAT stuff, I never really messed with it

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Oh. No worries, it seems more effort than it's worth

ATH of BAT was $1.50 although it's in the shitter right now.

Edit: perhaps more usefully, you pay for Brave ad campaigns in BAT I believe. Pile up BAT when it's cheap for a cheap ad for Saidit if you want it.

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That's not true either.

The problem is they needed a name with a mobile phone number. I didn't have one then. I have one now. We can set this up if you like. You can even give me a percentage for handling it. If you trust me. You have no reason not to. I've not lied or cheated. Your only beefs with me, so far as I know, is when you take offense at things I've stated, when I disagree with you, when I challenge your management "style", and when I called out your bullshit on occasion. The option is yours, with me or anyone else with a real name and mobile number.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Not sure that's correct at all.

I can help you use Monero if you'd like. I've never had problems with the official Monero wallet, but I imagine a pain point may be that it wants you to run a full node and download the full blockchain to use it. I believe you can set it to a public node to avoid that - you lose some privacy in theory but you might feel OK with a node that's trusted by the community or something.

For converting XMR to BTC, I'd suggest TradeOgre. It's got very low fees since it's a trading platform, there's no KYC requirement, and they list BTC-XMR pair (including plenty of other BTC pairs).

Cakewallet is a self-custodial phone app wallet that is very simple to use and has both BTC and XMR wallet functionality. It uses a remote node that Cakewallet owns, but you can change it to a different one if you want to.

There are other suggestions here: getmonero.org

Thanks for the advice and the links. Maybe we'll give it a try someday soon, once everything else is settled and I have some extra free time. Things are probably better now than back when I tried it.

Saved.

I/we may need some help with crypto stuff.
(/s/Cassy + /s/Projex + /s/StandUpWindsor + more.)

Would be glad to help!

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Would be glad to help!

I have a few ideas.

You can make instructional posts on /s/cryptocurrency that address crypto, crowdsourcing, and fundraising, then ping me, and I can copypasta to https://Projex.Wiki/wiki/Crowdsourcing and mirror it to WikiSpooks and InfoGalactic.

You can email, PM me, or whatever then I can copypasta to https://Projex.Wiki/wiki/Crowdsourcing and mirror it to WikiSpooks and InfoGalactic.

Or you can join https://Projex.Wiki and work on pages. You can start wiki pages, post the links on SaidIt, and ask for help filling them out - or just share when you're done without collaboration.

It's up to you.

If all goes well without distractions, today I'll migrate the lists of /s/DecentralizeAllThings/wiki to Projex.Wiki, and maybe start the Crowdsourcing article and Tech Alternatives (/s/technology/comments/8x88/projexwiki_will_be_starting_a_list_of_tech/).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At some point soon I'm going to try to start crowdsource fundraising for several groups needing support:

1) Global causes and communications (ie. SaidIt, WikiSpooks, Projex, future /s/Cassy decentralized platforms, etc.)

2) Canadian causes (ie. truckers, protestors, White Flag Society, etc.)

3) Windsor causes (ie. Windsor Freedom Rallies, Sanctuary Café, local activism, urban gardening classes, Windsor alt comms, Green Room, White Flag Society, etc.)

4) My projects and causes (ie. replace my stolen bags, banner/sign/sticker/t-shirt projects, gear wish lists, podcasts and videos, better food, etc.)

All of this also needs a system to be FOTPACH (fair, open, transparent, peaceful, accountable, consistent, honest) as well as enduring, flexible, resilient, safe, secure, and tyranny-proof.

Now that I've typed all this out I wonder if this should be a post.

I can't remember if there is a crowdfunding service that uses Monero or not. I want to say so but I may've been hallucinating.

When it comes to using crypto to transfer money to a community, I think then who controls the wallet can become controversial and cause problems, since it's usually 1 or a few people. This could be the case if you just use crypto without any crowdfunding service infrastructure. That said, Monero is awesome in that if you publish a private view key, you can demonstrate proof of receipt of all of the funds. Then there would have to be some system of accountability by the organization receiving that money, so that it's allocated FOTPACHly (lol). Once the money is in the hands of the organization, then Monero's untraceable nature becomes kind of a double-edged sword, because it's harder for the crowd to know if it's being used responsibly, but it also makes it resistant to tyrranical forces.

Why is this account consistently posting pro-regime propaganda? Who does that without money changing hands?

Are you a Canadian trucker? Are donations via tipping via brave (using BAT) helpful even if its a small amount?

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

We'd really prefer donations via other cryptos, I don't have a good process for getting BAT back to USD to pay for the server costs. Best is Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash. Donation addresses here: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/jf/cryptocurrency_support_for_saiditnet/
