This, except it's the inverse.

The "leftist octapus" are infact an Israeli intel operation.

Blocking won't solve this.

They'll make new accounts that haven't been blocked.

Bored? Or had their feelings hurt and this is the way they take back control? I suspect they even have comments in this thread as a normal user. Who's up for a game of Imposter?

Octopus, yes; leftist, no, especially the 88/LXXXIII Nazi extremism that has also been in /s/ironleft . (Seems they were banned for good reason.)

The daily astroturf person or people are - seems to me - using QBoogaloo Oath Keeper Nazi extremists language in their posts (eg. 8/8 upvotes& topics), even though - as /u/magnora7 has noted - they are also mainly trying to kill engagement at Saidit, or at the very least they're pushing an '88 Precepts' agenda, for whatever reason.

[–][deleted] 12 insightful - 7 fun12 insightful - 6 fun13 insightful - 7 fun -  (13 children)

I'm not a fun of numerology.

Their symbol is a giant octopus devouring the whole planet for the Greater Good. A perfect depiction of collectivism and internationality. It even has a red star.

International collectivist zealots are commies, not nazis.

QBoogaloo Oath Keeper Nazi extremists language

Lol. And he wants to save us from conspiracy theories and misinformation.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

International collectivist zealots are commies, not nazis.

Ahistorical.

Both the Fascist movements in Italy and Germany grew out of:

The Italian Socialist Party, which was the basis of Mussolini's Fascist movement (after they kicked him out in 1914 and in 1915 the members of his movement called themselves Fascists ('fascio' meaning "a bundle of sticks", or imperial collective, in reference Imperial Rome)

German National Socialism arose from this ideology soon afterword, as a way of attracting socialists to the Nazi movement and in agreement with the fascist goal for:

the creation of a nationalist dictatorship to regulate economic structure and to transform social relations within a modern, self-determined culture, and the expansion of the nation into an empire [Wikipedia / fascism]

Fascists and Nazis have always been collectivists, because they've been focused on worker's programs, imperial ambitions, and authoritarian control of the masses (eg. authoritarian/nationalist movements in China, Russia, India, Israel, Turkey, Philippines, Myanmar, Brasil &c) [edit: words]

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (11 children)

Fascists and Nazis have always been collectivists

I'm aware. Nazis want control over a nation, fascists over a country, communists over the world.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (10 children)

Jesus - fascists have had imperial ambitions, which continue today in the countries I mention, even if we no longer call some of these nations empires. (See for example Gildea's 'Empires of the Mind', which isn't about the mind, but rather Imperial developments today)

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

But, compared to Great Britain and the Soviet Union, the fascists were the biggest anti-imperialists.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Hence the Italian and German invasions of several countries?

[–]Area_88 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

And the Japanese invasions, no less!

As for communist "imperialism"... I guess the Soviet Union under Stalin is the main culprit... but other than that? They seized a part of Germany... but so did the US. North Korea wants re-unification with the South, but again so did US-occupied West-Germany with the East. China's "imperialism" is mainly tangible trade & development programs that do not even seek to topple/supplant the governments already in place.

Hmmm... it's almost as if there's actually a difference between rightwing imperialism... and leftwing internationalism... 🤔

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

imperial

Any successful nation rediscovers imperialism eventually. Nazis can be called the least imperialistic because their attachment to blood purity turns everyone into their natural enemy and reduces their recruitment pool.

Of course, in the real world any nationalist state would switch to fascism after some success. Because people only want what is rare. When freedom is rare, liberty factions rise. When a nation faces extinction, nationalist factions arise. Remove the scarcity, and people will forget it exists.

Communism can be said to be the most imperialistic because it sees the whole world as their recruits and all countries as temporally occupied territories.

Shills are shills, the ideology is less relevant

The problem however is that there are virtually no right wing groups (or even extremist/fringes) with the organizational prowess to engage in shill efforts with the intent to disrupt a website, outside of some (fringe) forums that might target a site

So if there's a lack of heavily populated fringe forums explicitly targeting a site, but the posters give over-the-top identifier labels, it's safe to assume the posters are assuming a false identity

Blaming that activity on "hurr durr the right wing extremist crowd" is as stupid as blaming "Russian bots" infiltrating the left

https://archive.is/aD361

As political censorship escalates on social media, American spy agencies accuse Russia of running a fake left-wing news website called PeaceData. But there is no evidence for the FBI’s claims, and many questions remain unanswered.

By Ben Norton

...At the center of the intrigue is a suspicious website called PeaceData. The FBI and a Pentagon-backed private intelligence firm called Graphika claim the page is a Russian government vehicle for pushing disinformation in English, but there is no tangible evidence to support the claim — only a statement posted in comically broken English that sounds much more like someone trying to impersonate a Russian than sophisticated Kremlin operatives.

PeaceData was completely unknown before it was identified by the FBI as the heart of a supposed Russian disinformation scheme. The website had next to no following, with just 197 likes on Facebook, and negligible web traffic.

PeaceData published articles from a left-wing perspective, the majority of which criticized US military interventions and Western imperialism. Most of these posts were reprinted without permission from real, independent progressive news outlets.

Every aspect of PeaceData’s existence and online behavior appears suspicious. The only third party that had access to the website’s social media data is a Pentagon contractor called Graphika. This US government-backed tech firm prepared a lengthy report on PeaceData, but offered absolutely no proof that Moscow was behind it.

Another former PeaceData writer who was given a large platform in The Guardian previously interned for conservative Democrat Congressman Don Beyer, wrote anti-Russian articles, and pushes Russiagate narratives on social media.

Why would dubious and apparently compromised figures like these have leapt at the opportunity to write for an unknown website whose editorial line was so clearly at odds with their stated views? And how did that previously unknown online operation find these obscure figures?

I'd bet money that this brigading of 'undesirables' (me referring to people posting trash to repel others) is a pretext by some shill group trying to get u/magnora to ask for help with "cracking down on trolls"

I (and I think, M7) would agree with the last sentence, and I appreciate the detailed answer, but as you can probably guess, I am referring specifically to alt-right individuals who support the '88 Precepts' and are trying to influence various websites in order to push their agendas. It's not "hurr durr" guesswork. Anyone on Saidit has already seen plenty of it, but here are some lists of the resources used by these alt-right groups to spread disinformation and propaganda:

I know, right? Several disinformation sites aren't there, including Breitbart, newsbusters, racewar.news, zerohedge, WSJ, bitchute, jpost, thegloriousamerican, OANN, brighteon, trunews, newspunch, newswars, notthebee, dailymail.co.uk, reclaimthenet.org, legalinsurrection, bigleaguepolitics, pjmedia, theintercept, satanslibrary.org, countere, planet-today, fff.org, and various others. Lazy liberals (or whoever they are) can't bother to update the Wikipedia page; meanwhile Radical Republicans have been busy building disinformation sites like these and social networking sites, especially these past 4 years. Liberals better step up.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but I haven't so much as glanced at fringe lunatics like the Daily Stormer or Stormfront in a couple years, and AFAIK nothing of the sort has popped up recently on 4chan, so I was asking if there was evidence in a group like that of them specifically trying to raid other sites as they have done (though to a rather pathetically small scale) in the past

Because I am in fact aware of those groups and other fringe lunatics doing this sort of thing on their own

But the fact I haven't even come across a reference to one such group, and the lunatics-in-question are coming from some vague "organically organized hate machine", I have to assume there is a false-identity shill op going on

I’m so glad I get to say this here without fear of getting banned:

LET’S BRIGADE THE FUCK OUT OF THAT SHITHOLE

So what I'm asking is for an equivalent to any of that, regarding the fringe groups you are talking about

I'm especially suspicious because quite a few of the most anti-social "right wing extremist" groups I've seen, like Atomwaffen, have had their communications organizers (the people leading the posting of the most hateful, incendiary stuff) actually end up being diehard leftists/antifas who "leak" information to publications all the time, and are actually just trying to manipulate normal but guillable idiots into acting out the stereotype of some hateful, racist/ect asshole who is a threat to public security

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Nice to see you've arrived Marquis.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Thanks for the info. There are two problems here:

1) There are numerous recent alt-right outlets

2) At a deeper level - per recent PhD research on this - there are Russian and other "troll-farms"/companies that are not obviously focused on 'right' or 'left', but on getting people to fight over right and left and everything else. Getting people angry is their focus. This ultimately supports the election of Trump and similar puppets who can look like they're for the 99% initially, but are definitely puppets for corrupt elements of the international 1%. The Russian website, hexbear.net, includes discussions of some of the professional trolls. Not that they are trolling one another on that specific site, but bouncing ideas around. Hexbear.net is also much bigger than that, and one hardly notices the professionals unless one looks for them.

It seems you've asked me a question:

So what I'm asking is for an equivalent to any of that, regarding the fringe groups you are talking about

But I am not sure what's at issue here. If you can rephrase the question with more specific terms, I can try to assess an (another?) 'equivalent' 'fringe group'.

I should note that I am not a specialist on 'fringe groups' Much of what I've seen of the alt-right is already here at Saidit, and many of them aren't considered 'fringe' but instead mainstream right-wing

[–]Zapped 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I mostly agree with what you said, with the exception of Russian puppets. Instability is the main goal. It allows them more free range in their international adventures. China has been using the combination of feeding domestic turbulence with buying political influence since they are still tied so closely to the U.S. economy.

Remember when you were pretending to be a Chinese transgender incel named SNOW?

Back then you were all about harassing newcomers, and starting up conversations with others about their possible attraction to underage girls, etc.

Some groups hated you, and made a Teach Snow English sub, because you pretended to have bad grammar.
I suppose you also were pretending not to know about grammar checking software.

How you miraculously found SNOWS posts elsewhere from two independent and separate locations and then posted it here. It's so far from probable.

You posted it there, and then you pretended to find your own crappy posts.

Bush league material. Bad comedy...

Twice, because it was ignored the first time.

A well-intentioned and honest person would have notified M7, because it was absurd beyond belief.

Instead, you tried to sensationalize it.
Twice.

You had to. Your fake SNOW account had quit, and no one noticed, or cared.

So, there it is.

It's certainly a curious story, but it doesn't solidify ice Chipit's from Snow. There could be many other explanations for the exceptional circumstances of this coincidence. For example: Maybe one shill was outing another shill. The CIA and FBI have often ensnared each other. Friendly fire happens.

That said, it's no secret how I feel, and I can't condone it, but I also won't tell you to stop harassing Chipit until he melts away like Snow.

You know that they never post anything that is anywhere near leftist. So, if they were actual leftists playing a false moustache game, they wouldn't understand or be up-to-date with much of the alt-right stuff they post. Leftists make terrible shills. There are occasional claims that the IDF (Israel) are behind some of this. And there are well known Russian and Chinese troll farms. And in the US you can make a living with troll accounts, but the specific person or people targetting Saidit with the Octopus 88 nonsense knows Saidit very well and believes very much in the alt-right, racist, nonsense they post.

[–]Chipit 8 insightful - 6 fun8 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 6 fun -  (2 children)

You kidding me? They don't post actual far right content. They act as obnoxiously as possible to scare away users. Only the left wants that, and paid social media influencers are this year's big innovation. The hard left got a ton of cash dumped on it in 2020 and they're using it to fund these campaigns.

The other day one of them used a tactic on me that the US government had used in their online campaigns against jihadi groups. Someone with advanced knowledge of psychology is training them. Actual far right are mostly complete idiots, and are especially terrible at understanding psychology.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

[–]Chipit 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Due to the personality differences and what they prioritize, leftists can usually communicate a lot better and write without spelling errors or the all caps so beloved of the far right. They're also not smart enough to use tactics taught in the war on terror to disrupt and demoralize jihadi groups.

This is manipulation by outsiders to suppress controversial political posts. They try to bury the other posts. Sometimes there are also spammers that upvote themselves. Simply report them.

But on saidit you can easily scroll down to get some of the better posts.

There are also subs that are not visible on /s/all because they are too controversial. You need to subscribe to them to see them. This also hides some of the better posts. And I think we should have a weekly "best of" summary to see where we can find interesting content.

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    Yes!

I've stated many times that we should compile a weekly and/or monthly best of SaidIt newsletter for those who don't have the time to dive deep regularly. Instead of a dozen articles on the same topic, often with minor updates, at the end of the week present the best of the best shared articles/media and/or even draft up a summary for greater contextual understanding. These newsletters could also be mirrored on WikiSpooks.

IMO, it may take time to build up a newsletter userbase even if the editorial process is good to excellent, but if this were to take off I think it would be tremendous for SaidIt.

It's on my list, but I have other things I'd rather do that don't require me keeping up on all the latest current events. This is a BIG job and either needs to be done well or it will just be lost to time.

    No, I did not.

Each post has the same title but the content is different.

If you like I can post/repost with variations on the same theme. It's just simpler to restore my post. It's even better if you were to evolve and/or address the issues.

I am not responsible for the STABs nor their actions.

Give it up man, nobody wants to see the same damn post all the time, no matter how pissed off the user is. If your plan is to post the same thing over and over until the end of time or until you get what you want, that's a bunch of B.S. that nobody on the site wants to see.

    [–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (6 children)

Retarded shill, it's NOT "the same damn post all the time".

1 post / week with the same title and goals yet there's A NEW MEME EVERY SINGLE TIME.

    MANY people support my efforts.

Should /u/diogenesjunior be un-banned? I've lost a friend. I don't know the details: who where when what how why. This is a serious problem on SaidIt.

    This week's censored meme.

"They changed Malibu Stacy!" one exclaims. "She is better than ever!" says another.

Lisa tries to point out that the only difference is her stupid cheap hat. "She still embodies all the awful stereotypes she did before!"

Smithers is quick to point out, "But she's got a new hat!"

Chipit, what about Andrew Jackson appointing Rothschilds as the fiscal agents of the US to Europe? Never got your take on that?

I think Jason can get mad some times but I think he contributes greatly to this site.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    lmao

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Excellent analogy - except it isn't.

Someone like you might think my memes are just superficial hats on the same idea.

Sure, I still want the same thing for SaidIt and the world, but certainly I don't give a shit about being a consumerist brand whore after some cheap toy dolls made in China.

I'm not going to create a new problem each week to blame on M7 to satiate your boredom. I'm not going to write up elaborate essays that are all a variant on the same theme.

The point is simple: have fair, open, and accountable social management.

It's not difficult nor is it rocket surgery - nor is it comparable to your plastic childish references.

    [–]SaidOverRed 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Okay, so just to be clear, you're fine with me copy and pasting the same response to each of your threads as long as I link a new picture? I'm not saying I'll for sure do this, but I want to make sure you're okay with others doing the same actions you're saying is okay.

    [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

So you're going to remove all the posts that STABs upvote?

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

He's already culled many of my crossposts, but I don't begrudge that if one is left active. The others may be restored in a day or few after they leave the front page - but that requires more admin/mod work. The trolls have won on this front as I'm crossposting much less now.

He and other admins have removed obvious sockvoted spam.

It still does not excuse him censoring my weekly post with a brand new meme, though under the same protest title that he won't address. I could repost it today with a different title. I could make a new one daily. He seems to forget how much effort I've taken to be fair - but he's not interested in being fair, open, and accountable.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Maybe that's true. Maybe it's not. He's changed his mind before.

Magnora7 has a small but not insignificant history of exaggeration, evasion, secrecy, manipulation, deception, and outright falsities - even lies.

If he was as forthright as many SaidIt users I know to be honest or even many I don't know well who have not been deceptive, then I might give him the benefit of the doubt and accept his fair judgement.

But he's not fair, open, accountable, nor always honest and/or correct.

I cannot trust him, nor his word on such matters. I'm NOT the only one.

THAT is why I'm pushing for transparency and/or better social management systems.

      [–]Akali 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (8 children)

/u/magnora7 how about having more mods? Because right now, the front page is just filled with these.

      [–]SubliminalCriminal 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

it is so easy to do a little fake voting... it takes all of less than two minutes to register a new login account, you arent even required to use an email address, lol... and then all you need to do is to re-login using those throwaway logins and then vote up your post... it takes usually no more than eight or ten fake upvotes to get to the top of the front page.

every thing on the front page now is the result of fake votes, i am quite sure.

      [–]Akali 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (5 children)

You've got a point, it should require email confirmation just to slow it down.

      [–]SubliminalCriminal 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

maybe, maybe not... you see, i think that true solutions are not found by simply altering what it is that the others are doing.. sometimes the solution can only be found by first defining what it is that the problem really is and/or is not..

what is the purpose or function of voting for posts? i see it as a way to programmatically sort the posts according from best or most popular first in a listing...

but what might be an even better way to sort the posts? how about dont sort them at all?

how about instead of voting, how about if we keep track of how long people spend viewing a particular post? and allow that to be the vote that tells us how popular a post is or is not?

ok, i gotta go now, my dog and i have a date scheduled for this evening, we light candles in the bathroom and we drink out of the toilet and we sing old sailor songs..

      woof.

      [–]Akali 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

That's interesting. Comments should increase their ranking as well. This way it would be easy to see which comment are from bots and which one aren't.

      [–]SubliminalCriminal 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

requiring an email really does not that much at all... i think that in order for a forum to become a quality source of chat and whatnot, it should be necessary that we have a video of the user in his profile... a bit like how this one sugar babies site that i go to they have a short five or ten seconds of a verification video in their profile...

As long as its not drama posts I dont care. Fresh content is fresh content. If a couple dozen bots can dominate the front page the problem is that no real people are engaging. Better to have bots than an absolutely dead site.

        ‘LXXXVIII rebellion’

The fact you're in a "rebellion" against someone offering a free board for everyone to use means you're an asshole.

It's always assholes like this that ruin things for everyone.

Quit your bitching and go somewhere else if you don't like it.

        [–]magnora7 12 insightful - 4 fun12 insightful - 3 fun13 insightful - 4 fun -  (5 children)

They're deliberately ruining it. Ruining this forum is their goal, not a side-effect

        [–]bobbobbybob 8 insightful - 5 fun8 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 5 fun -  (1 child)

it takes two to tango. If you just let them do their thing, we'd quickly learn who they were, and would be able to block them ourselves if we wanted to. Instead, this nonsense is escalating and for each account banned (remembering all the poor innocents who get caught in the crossfire), a bunch more crop up, hydra like, shitting the place up even more.

Too tight a grip, and there will be nothing left but dust when you finally relax

It depends on their intent. Trolls: I agree with you. They will get bored if ignored. Shills: Ignoring them allows them to change the culture of this site.

Many of us are too stubborn to give a shit or see it as a direct challenge, and immediately feel defiant towards them anyways. They'll get the picture eventually.

I'm glad to hear it. But if they're being paid, which they likely are... then they can just keep doing it infinitely basically because they can always find new people. That's the worst part about it

        [–]mongre 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

You're the idiot bitching at magnora. Admit it, you fat little fuck. You're nothing more than a troll. You're miserable and the only thing that gives you any sensation whatsoever is spewing your misery out on others. I feel sorry for people like you. I can only imagine how bad your life must suck.

Any space on the internet that allows free expression and speech is invaded by an army of left wing bots that basically post spam and annoy people. Their owners don't have an identity so want to ruin the lives of everyone else because they are miserable themselves. Left wing people are full with hate it is sad, I pity them.

          [–]proc0 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (2 children)

Bots upvoting is a serious feature flaw in aggregation sites. Only humans should be allowed to judge, after some spam filtering of course, but why tackle that as if it was legit content to begin with... upvotes should start after all the algorithms have checked the content, and then the upvote number should literally reflect number of humans that ciicked, at least IMHO.

          [–]SaidOverRed 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Agreed, perhaps occasional captcha's? Like a normal person would not "miss" one after an upvote, but a botnet would.

Then atleast you know to ban the account and put more restrictions on that IP (or any IP's that user has logged in with). Would the ban undo their upvotes? I know it can be the usual free speech issue, but if they are a bot ... yeah I think it should.

Okay well I'm going to be honest here. I use the "LOL" button like everyone else: it's a downvote to things that are trying to be serious and an upvote to things that are trying to be funny.

So for instance, I clicked the funny upvote on this because ... I don't think it's bots doing this. It's just people like me laughing at you. Sorry.

          [–]Intuit[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I was referring to new posts that have exactly the same number of insight and fun points, within a few hours of posting, with no comments from anyone. This suggests bots that just upvote the creator's content.

This has nothing to do with votes made by actual people who are reading the content and reacting/responding. The underlying goal of my post was to make room for more of this rather than synthetically-upvoted things.

          [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

This suggests bots that just upvote the creator's content.

Or it could be someone with 8 aliases, maybe even 8 different browsers open.

I know for a fact that they tweak their votes. I can upvote or unvote so that it shows 9/7 and moments later they'll "fix" it back to 8/8. If 6 other people vote they will remove 6 of their votes to keep it at 8/8.
