Let's face facts, SaidIt will not last. Either magnora7 will go over the edge and raise censorship to an intolerable level, or SaidIt will be shut down by the global elite. So don't get emotionally invested in SaidIt. Instead, use this platform to promote alternatives. A sensible distributed social forum is one option. Another option is forming a sensible physical community somewhere and just forgetting about the internet (since almost everyone on the internet is scum anyway).

Nonsense.

I think you should stop playing admin, and stop acting like an obvious troll. No one is buying your act anymore dude

[–]Airbus320 8 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 4 fun -  (24 children)

Its u/snow's alt

[–]Node 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (23 children)

This is my last comment.

I don't know anything about /u/snow except they were capable of at least one truthful statement.

But if that was JC, where are all the subs?

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (22 children)

Node, you've been here since October 20, 2017. I've been here since November 15, 2018, well before Snow showed up and we're nothing alike.

Possibly related disturbers:
/u/Airbus320 = saiditter for 3 months
/u/boeing737 = saiditter for 4 months

[–]Node 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (21 children)

IKR? That poser only modded 3 subs! lol (kidding)

I'm pretty used to the trolls and retards, as a denizen of the now defunct 'armpit of the internet'. But note someone is trying to revive it: https://www.voat.xyz/v/all

The groups who try to destroy a site are a different issue than just being mentally defective. I'm glad it's not my problem. In M7s place I'd be inclined to ban all those uvxx accounts, and all the other alts. The problem is the normal users who don't know what's going on think it might be an attack on a fellow normal. Then you get all kinds of drama that erodes trust. Especially if you allow the banned user to make new accounts with full powers.

Then they're free to spread propaganda to get sympathy from regular users and cast doubt on the admins. IMO, new accounts should need to earn their commenting, voting, and posting rights from the existing user base.

Don't know the other one, but /u/Airbus320 seems okay in my experience. Although I feel like I'm flying blind on saidit. User tags and mouseover account info popups are an incredibly tool for those of us lacking an eidetic memory.

[–]LarrySwinger2 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (12 children)

IMO, new accounts should need to earn their commenting, voting, and posting rights from the existing user base.

How are users going to earn their rights if they can't comment or post? I think barriers to entry are a bad idea, because its bars the contributors as well. I, for one, wouldn't be here if such a system were used. Contributing means giving – I can't stand needing to earn that. I think the system used on Hacker News is a step up. They have downvotes like on Reddit, which I think is a good thing by itself. The difference is that members gradually get more voting power as they establish themselves (both for post and comment voting). This makes infiltration more difficult, but still allows everyone to participate.

Regarding /u/Airbus320: I've seen him post insightful comments, but now that I'm looking at his account overview, I do get the impression he's a troll or paid shill. No idea why else he'd start spamming like that.

Exactly.

Oh, once more regarding /u/Airbus320. Turns out I was just confusing him for /u/AirSeddit88. The latter's an actual contributor, the former just spams and has been here for only 3 months.

[–]Node 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Now I see the difference. Airbus must have made a comment at some point that made an impression on me, but you wouldn't guess that by his last page of comments.

[–]Airbus320 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

😡

[–]LarrySwinger2 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Case in point.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, until yesterday /u/Airbus320 was on my /s/friends for being insightful.

IMO, keep the playing field even - but give the players different colour shirts they earn.

Keep in mind, age and/or high points do not necessarily mean high quality, so M7 and/or the community can determine who is worthy of the top-tier/advisor status, or whatever we call it. AND because it's all open, people can fade, make mistakes, etc etc etc and lose that status. For more on the tiers see the chart.

No extra powers, just earned visible respect.

It could go the other way too. People who troll accumulate downward minor infractions (with expiration) until they strike out. Major strikes are another thing. IMO strike out should literally mean strike out and not be censored/removed unless it's illegal content.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Airbus has hounded my comments all day and Boeing commented once and PMed me for the first time ever - about vegans and eating meat.

Good news for Voat folks. Has that site been posted? They're not my crowd but I don't begrudge them that. I wonder if they're using a Reddit/SaidIt fork?

Drama handled by adults should be self evident as truth and logic should win. If status badges or something were earned and awarded then people could listen to those benchmark voices of reason openly. Secrecy is not helpful. Here's more. Maybe badges with strikes within a limited time frame might be helpful too. Unless they've expired I still have at least 2 strikes from almost 2 years ago. I've chosen to ignore the threats and be my authentic self regardless.

One of the biggest strengths/weaknesses of SaidIt is the anonymous aliases. I have no ideas to help this other than to add the age of the account beside a user's name. There's space.

I was careful about my labels for those 2. I don't know if they're just malcontents or related to the other psyops. I had Airbus in my /s/friends until his hyperactivity in my post here - and digging up stuff around SaidIt from a year ago as if it were incriminating.

It's impossible for anyone to be omnipotent on SaidIt anymore.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Also, /u/bald-janitor PMed me yesterday and again today with complete nonsense, like they're bots or something. First times.

I can quote them if anyone cares. Because it's nonsense I don't feel like I'll break anyone's confidence.

You are sounding strange now, lets go away

How very peculiar that you used that "go away" phrase.

Here's the PM correspondence from /u/bald-janitor:

bald-janitor   its time we all go away jason

[–] from bald-janitor sent 16 hours ago

[–] to bald-janitor sent 16 hours ago

Go to where?

Who are they?

What's up with all your TEAM BRO'HOOD comments?

[–] from bald-janitor sent 15 hours ago

You ask to many questions

[–] from bald-janitor sent 46 minutes ago

8kun

They are evil people

8kun=imageboard. Ancient pastas (referring to TEAM BRO'ERHOOD I assume)=old copied/pasted shit from there. Is he indicating that we're being attacked by 8kun? If that's the case, this whole thing can be resolved by responding with brigades of lower-case one word racial slur responses? It looks too overly thought out to be from there, overly Reddit-y.

[–]Airbus320 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

They all are trying to trick us Jason!

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (23 children)

Maybe you're right.

Maybe I should just let my friend pass on and M7 be childish when he sees fit.

FYI, I'm not wanting to be admin. I want a better admin system - under the same admin.

Also, many do support my efforts for more fairness and transparency.

Lastly, feel free to tell me how to improve this post and/or things in general. Criticisms are the start, but solutions are the end goal.

[–]newguy 12 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 2 fun -  (22 children)

Amazing how you manage to fit a smear of the platform you use in every post while pretending to want to improve things. You're probably a shill. All you do is concern troll.

[–]Drewski 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (18 children)

I disagree, Jason has been a long time and valuable contributor to the site and he raises some valid concerns here.

[–]newguy 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (17 children)

Even though he's acting like a shill more and more the last few weeks? Is he helping the site or destroying it? He's calling for public trials, which we know causes lots of pointless drama, and last week showed this for a fact. He keeps smearing the admin and the site at every opportunity, while pretending to be "concerned" but never has any actual workable solutions

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

If anyone who raises legitimate questions or doubts about how M7 runs things or questions his authority - then consider me a fucking shill if you must. It doesn't make it true.

I do NOT smear M7. So far, I stand by him in all things except only censorship/banning, his lack of delegating, his lack of transparency and democracy, and when he behaves childish.

Yes, I am calling for transparent public trials where the truth may be outed, for better or worse, for all to learn from. Yes, there will be drama, centralized and controlled - but transparent.

All I try to offer is workable solutions. You offer none here. I wonder if you too are shilling?

Also, I've never been critical of /u/TheAmeliaMay or /u/d3rr or any others who may have admin status.

[–]Airbus320 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

(((democracy)))

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

As I've explained before, I actually don't want want the tyranny of democracy, nor Democrats, or whatever you mean by it. By democracy I mean that the people should at least have the opportunity to weigh in and have a say in things - certainly more than they've had until now.

[–]Airbus320 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Why should we have a say in a thing we have not created? Do we pay him for his costs? The least we can do is not troll this site which you repeatedly do

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Our community is our creation. M7 didn't write my post or your comment. I made the new SaidIt logo and gifted the rights to him and d3rr, for whatever that's worth. He didn't even start SaidIt single-handedly.

M7 owns the domain and remains top admin. I'm not challenging that, nor much else that is this SaidIt I consider home.

I do not troll. I don't care if IronLeft gets banned. I care that /u/diogenesjunior and others have been banned and rightly or wrongly, I can't know why. I also care that I can't object to this, question M7, nor defend myself against legit asstrolls clearly breaking the rules without M7 threatening to axe me.

[–]Airbus320 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

Dammit, 8 months! I could have had a baby in that time (if I was actually allowed to get within 2m of other human beings irl).

[–]Airbus320 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I have been here longer than u/snow

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe.

A long time coming (much longer than preferred), I'll soon be changing my own way of participating on SaidIt anyway - to focus on projects. I still hope DioJr will be able to join us.

Regardless, having this opinion doesn't mean I'll take you off my /s/friends list, which I use to see folks who are often insightful and/or above the left/right nonsense.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Shall I point you to all the work I've done puffing up SaidIt? I'm perpetually linking to it from elsewhere, recommending it to people, and inviting everyone I know that's moderately aware to come here. I wrote the InfoGalactic encyclopedic article about SaidIt (omitting loads of drama) and I started the AlternativeTo page. There's no end to the great things I've said and done for SaidIt. However, it's unrealistic to pretend it's perfect and naive to believe it will survive forever without improving and evolving.

Instead of ignoring this post you took the effort to comment - twice. All you're doing is providing unnecessary drama with unhelpful criticisms without solutions while increasing this post's visibility.

If I'm a shill then I'm the shittiest poorest unpaid shill there is.

[–]newguy 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

It's a lot of work to pretend to be a member of the community while actually destroying it

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

There are a lot more effect ways to destroy this community. ie. The psyops of personal attacks aimed to demoralize - which the LXXX asstrolls employ.

[–]Comatoast 10 insightful - 5 fun10 insightful - 4 fun11 insightful - 5 fun -  (2 children)

I've personally never been in an online social atmosphere where the admin was as accessible as Magnora. Moot interacted, but it wasn't the same.

I've also never been part of an online social atmosphere where people were allowed to debate their worthiness of being there after being banned outside of maybe an appeal to the mods. Banned meant banned for whatever period of time, hands dusted. This wasn't an everyone's business thing, outside of chatter over people that actually used usernames or tripcodes. I've always hated Reddit, just followed GC over here because I had just stumbled upon it like a week and a half before the maelstrom of Reddit censorship took over. This place though? We're fucking spoiled.

I like that we're able to interact with the admin, but at the same time this seems to have just made his authority over the site seem a little too equal? He's done something great, created a spot for all of us to interact without the same levels of status quo, brainless criticism that you get in normiespheres. I know there's this whole big to-do about transparency now, but we're not owed that by default. I'm not going to walk into another woman's house and demand to use her lipstick, so why would I ask a site owner/admin to give me all the sweet deets on why he made a decision to ban someone from his own site? We're users here, some contributing more than others, making helpful suggestions and offers to help with whatever shit, and even modding out subs of their own. That said, we're still just users.

The people banned should appeal, and for the rest of us it's not really our business or decision to make. If they continue to ban evade, fuck their disrespectful shit. That's the epitome of asking for it.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That was legitimately insightful. It's why you can't be friends with your subordinates, and it sucks.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Anonymous aliases are one of the biggest pros/cons of SaidIt. I have no problem using my real name.

M7 didn't build SaidIt on his own, not even on the coding side. This community is a team effort. WE've done something great. He brought forth a great vision and utilizing the Pyramid Of Debate is brilliant. That doesn't mean we should shut down all discussion about improving things further and just coast, adrift, without direction.

I'm not talking about full transparency on all things. I hope M7's real name is never exposed - if it is even just one person (ie. not Dread Pirate Roberts). I want to know why my friend /u/diogenesjunior was banned and/or if he can be restored. If DioJr is not safe here, then maybe I'm not safe here, and maybe everyone is not safe - so why bother building this community at all? This is an existential crisis worse than trolls.

Yes, the people banned should appeal, but there is no process for that. I'm asking for it. M7 can employ mine, others', or come up with his own ideas - or better: all of us collaborate. It just occurred to me, maybe M7 can set up a simple site on the side for dealing with this and/or other matters. He says SaidIt costs only $400/year to run. I'm quite certain that money could easily be raised, especially if he bothered to put the "donate" in the banner or something more prominent.

The disrespect is trivial compared to the problems, manipulations, and deception - and the sock puppets are much worse than ban evasions, especially considering bans may or may not be fair.

[–]Optimus85 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

He's not trolling; just raising some legitimate concerns. Why this seems to irk other users I don't know.

[–]SaidOverRed 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

What are the concerns, exactly? It's late. A lack of a sidewide (non-sub) banlist?

[–]Optimus85 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

A more transparent approach to banning and more openness to feedback. Nothing unreasonable.

I don't like the ban waves, but I tell ya, if I was in charge I'd probably say "oh well," nuke the site from orbit, and save myself hassle and $80 a month. I wouldn't run a site with an insurrection against me.

So props to M7 for not taking the option I would.

This is NOT an insurrection. This is a open source invention to protest to appeal where no appeal process exists.

I am calling for M7 to do better and offering alternatives and solutions that HELP lift and distribute his burdens, keeping him as top veto guy.

I ran a Clash of Clans group of clans for 3 years. Wife thought it'd be fun to play a game together. Turned out we were way more successful at this than we thought we'd be. Turned into a 300 person affair. Running it was like a full time job that didn't pay anything.

Pretty soon off it became apparent I'd have to make some hard decisions. We started off as a friendly affair but it became competitive. To compete your members have to perform regularly. So people I liked had to get the axe. All sorts of drama and whatnot. Still, we did well.

One day I realized even though we had built this impressive thing but it was just pointless work and misery for me and I quit and have been happier ever since. I do not play phone games anymore.

Yeah all the people who concern troll are always using VPNs. It's seriously the way to shut down forums. Someone has a org that does this, and they just go around stomping on and smearing forums that aren't dead until they are dead

You've used a VPN many many many times. It's right there in the connection logs. You've used almost 20 IP addresses across 4 different ranges. Not sure why you feel the need to tell such obvious lies

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (15 children)

I flat out deny that. It's simply impossible. I'm not lying. You accuse people of that far too often.

At my house I have 1 DSL line with MNSi.net and 1 fiber line with Bell Canada. If they have changed the IP then that's not on me - and I certainly do not use VPNs, much less pay for them. I have used my own 2 computers, and I think I've logged on from my neighbour's computer in this house. I may have logged in from other places but none come to mind. I don't know what ranges are. I don't know if it's possible that my torrenting, YouTube-DLG or something else is mixing things up but I doubt it.

If I were a legit troll I'd use thousands, or more, or whatever it is they do.

    [–]magnora7 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (14 children)

I can post all the IP addresses you've used, if I have your permission. I can prove it, I have the server logs. You've clearly used a VPN many times over the last few years.

    [–]Node 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

If that's an easy check, what does my connection history look like?

I tried the free version of ProtonVPN a month or two ago, but it was too much of a pain and kept disconnecting. I have DSL too, and wonder if I get a new IP address after the power goes off. Last time was Jan 28.

    [–]SubliminalCriminal 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

i only use tor, which probably looks like a vpn on steroids.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

    /u/SubliminalCriminal = saiditter for 6 hours

    [–]SubliminalCriminal 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

i have been alive for approx 508,000 hours.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I have never knowingly used a VPN, ever. I don't even know how to set one up or turn one on. I've only used available browsers on my crappy Win7 box and laptop, and my neighbours.

Is it possible that my ISP, MNSi.net and/or Bell Canada have been using VPNs? Worse: Is it possible I have an unknown virus using a VPN, and/or grabbing my login info? So far I've seen no indication of any of this. Is it possible someone can spoof me somehow?

Before you doxx whatever IP addresses you have attributed to me, I'd like /u/d3rr to look at them for his 2 cents, if he doesn't mind.

I'm not interested in having my current IPs (fiber and DSL - handy when Cloudflare acted up, months ago) be attacked so I'd have to decline on that front, however, with my permission you may disclose the dates of use. Any pattern or timeline may be of interest.

    [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Before you doxx whatever IP addresses you have attributed to me

You literally posted a picture of yourself on infogalactic with your name and address as the caption. I don't think it's possible to doxx you any more than you've doxxed yourself.

All of his IP addresses do list his city as their location, though, if that counts for anything.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

    I put myself out there.

I don't want my computer jammed up or hacked and obviously I won't share financial info.

I said it's okay to list the times and locations, but not the actual addresses. They may belong to me, someone I know, or someone innocent - or not.

If they do not all list Windsor Ontario then we have a problem.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

New idea! Please feel free to share the physical locations of all those IP addresses (not virtual).

I've ONLY been in Windsor, Ontario, Canada for the last ~9 years. Anywhere else is impossible and something I/we should figure out.

Early on you made me remove my parent's address from a comment, conveniently located across the street from me, so I won't disclose my own address here, but like the phone books of ages gone by, I'm not afraid to "doxx" myself and share my home address - as is self-evident on my InfoGalactic page. Anyone reading this feel free to send me lots of great stuff.

    [–]SaidOverRed 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

Wait, if you want only the physical locations, does that mean IP addresses not matching the city you mentioned are fair game to post? Have you given this permission? That seems like they can't be connected to you, right?

Also, I'm using a VPN because all the cool kids are doing it.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I said it's okay to list the times and locations, but not the actual addresses. They may belong to me, someone I know, or someone innocent - or not. Let's start there.

If there's an IP from Russia or whatever then we need to figure out why. The IP doesn't really matter at that point. Security does. We/I'll need to narrow down why.

I don't know enough about IP security, ddos, and all that shit. So I don't want random addresses attacked or whatever by whatever kind of association they allegedly have with me.

If /u/d3rr says it's okay then I'll say release all the IP's that are not in Windsor Ontario Canada for almost full disclosure.

Also, feel free to use the SaidIt and SaidIt-chat server records.

    [–]SaidOverRed 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Thanks for the clarification. This is fair. You're basically saying 'don't mob' and you aren't sure if it can be used to mob (technically it could but that's really unlikely).

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I've used almost twenty IP addresses across five ranges (I think, not sure how to count them)... but that might be because I've moved three times since making my account (long story) — and I'm pretty sure one's my phone's data.

    [–]LarrySwinger2 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I use Tor and connect through a different IP address every session. Try to beat that!

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

    Yep, can't beat that.

    [–]Airbus320 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    Troller detected

    [–]Airbus320 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    Great idea

    [–]wristaction 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (4 children)

    Should ban this shit.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

    Why?

    [–]Airbus320 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Because you are demanding stuff like u/snow did

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I'm not demanding. I'm asking. Nagging at best. The IronLeft have demands. There is a difference.

    You're trolling. That's worse.

    [–]Airbus320 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

    We all are trolling now

    [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (10 children)

You are highly motivated, which could be taken as suspicious.

You use your real life name on a saidit account? If that is indeed the case, also suspicious.

I'd like to believe there are more good people than bad. But this is the internet, one person can represent 40 persons. lol

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (9 children)

/u/magnora meet /u/chon who seems suspicious.

    Also /u/SubliminalCriminal.

I wouldn't know how to tell new trolls from legit accounts, though the amount of activity might seem suspicious for a newbie.

    [–]Zapped 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Ok. I've been kicking back eating some popcorn over the past week or two while I watch how this plays out. I'll throw out my opinion. I don't comment on the obvious troll/shill posts because as some have said, it only reinforces the bad behavior. This person or group needs the noise provided by those who react to them. It doesn't matter if it's a shill, troll, or someone with a vendetta (or group of these types). I suspect, as M7 said, that there are older, normal seeming sleeper accounts used to herd users in a way to create chaos or in-fighting. I personally haven't ruled out anyone, but there are a few I suspect to be sleeper accounts and a few I am fairly sure aren't. It only benefits the trolls to have these unproven accusations against each other within these kinds of discussions. I also suspect the troll is accusing his own accounts of being complicit to add even more confusion. I have noticed certain "patterns" with certain users, but without more than suspicion, I will continue to respectfully interact with others as long as they show the same respect.

With that said, I do think that because this is a privately run site open to the public, the owner/head admin has the final say and authority to do as they want and anyone disrupting the place with demands and stunts should be banned. Most of us are guests here, even if some here have gone above to enriched this site with their contributions and building skills. I think it says a lot about M7 that we can have open discourse about how things are handled here and even harsh criticism is tolerated. Discussion like this is good for the site while it is still relatively small, but the fighting and mudslinging can only help the one(s) trying to disrupt the conversation and cohesiveness even amongst differing points of view. I don't have the skill set or desire for moderating a website and I have't heard anything so far that I think needs to be implemented, but I like that people here are willing to discuss these things.

You know, Pyramid of Debate and all that stuff.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

    Insightful comment, thank you.

I can't speak about the other drama, whether it's one or more, or different factions, or different factions under some organization - all I can do is speak for myself, and I'm not in league with any of them in any way. I can't even speak for all of DioJr's actions because the goof deleted his history - a cover up and/or a childish tantrum.

I make no demands. I'm asking for M7 to restore DioJr and employ a better system. I'm trying to protest as effectively (and thus as respectfully) as I can. I know no other way and am open to suggestions.

As for "disrupting the place", I would argue that I'm hardly that among so much inconsistency, hostile debates, psyops, and incendiary post on current events.

" I think it says a lot about M7 that we can have open discourse about how things are handled here and even harsh criticism is tolerated. "

I can wholeheartedly applaud and second that. I've never called for him to step down or any such infantile thing.

" I have't heard anything so far that I think needs to be implemented "

I'd value your feedback on this idea for fairness on SaidIt, and easing of magnora7's burdens.

    [–]Zapped 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I was only speaking of disruption in the area of the trolls/shills, and I do think it is more than one person, but who knows. I do not want any discussion like you have begun to get derailed by them. I fully support this post, even if I am not persuaded by it. I only hope people will begin to think before they respond to comments from these trolls. They are using new tricks to stay relevant.

    [–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

    Thank you.

    I agree.

Most alarming to me is their attempts at psychological manipulation and demotivation.
