You could also contact the mod(s) of said subs and ask to be made a moderator as well, if that's so important for you.

Creating a sub means you care about the topic and most likely that you are somewhat of an expert on it. It does not imply that you should be the main poster however.

Many subs, including my national sub are moderated by dormant accounts. I've contacted 4 accounts over a month ago, and none have responded.

You can make a [same_name]2 sub.

Lol the people who collect subs like they're baseball cards crack me up.

Also the people who think you have to be a mod of a sub to improve it. Like you can't just post stuff there, as if that's not the core of what makes a sub good.

Funny people.

But...they want to be in control of the subsaidit. Others post, and then they get to pick and choose what gets removed and what isn't. It's delightful for people with no lives. At last, an ability to hurt other people!

This can be used for legitimate reasons as well as ill intents. Similarly, someone could create a thread about other's not actively posting to their sub, while not contributing to it themselves. Let me see if I an find an example... Yes, here is one such hypocrisy. Look at that sad pathetic mook.

Site is honestly not big enough for subreddits/saidits. Reddit started life as just a few hardcoded subreddits. The concentration of all of the users in those subs created the impression of a busy and active site. It was only until they got extremely popular that they could afford to allow user created subs. The mistake many reddit clones make is to allow their very limited userbase to be dilated out by tiny niche subs that are only really possible on reddit because of its huge audience.

We used to have /all as the main page for this reason. Just in the last few months we changed it to be more like reddit and have the frontpage as your subscription page. This is now also a setting that can be changed on your user preferences page.

So I think we mostly avoided the over-dilution problem, but it's possible we still suffer from it a bit. But I think people are happier having the front page be their subscribed subs by default, as that's what most people are used to. We used to get tons of people asking it to be changed, and since changing it no one has asked for it to be changed back. So I think it was the right move.

You have to balance what generates the most content, with what creates a user experience that is predictable and easily understandable to new users.

argg.. I didn't notice that that changed. ;[

We only changed it for new user accounts created after it, if I remember correctly. So if you had it set to have /all as your main page for that user account, then it stayed that way after we changed it. You have to go in to your user preferences to change it if you have an old account.

When reddit started, it didn't have any subs at all.

What if you paranoid af and you got a sub like https://saidit.net/s/StreetArt/ nobody else will post into ?

I will post my stuff there: Only after a critical mass is reached.

[–]ISaidWhatISaid 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I was thinking of posting in that sub - because I see street art around me all the time when I'm out and about - but I am worried about giving my location away.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Same as me. I triple cleaned the pictures and stil don't share any. I get you brother.

[–]whistlepig 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I just had an idea and thought I might end up making the time to build it... heh .. guess what? I didn't.

If you want the stupid sub just ask me.

[–]ISaidWhatISaid 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is why I try to post something new in my sub every time I log in, which is almost daily. No one has responded yet, but I think this is the only way to let people know that the sub is active and soliciting replies.

It does require a bit of advertising to make a sub popular. But some people browse /all/new as well so if your sub has a lot of good posts on the regular, it will slowly get noticed by people most likely
