We thank you from IP2 for providing us a new place with fair rules and no censorship, the donations are a way of showing our appreciation to this great website.

Glad to hear that the servers are getting upgraded!

I think you guys should make it more known that you accept BAT token donations as well.

Brave Browser users could easily donate BAT to you straight from the SaidIt homepage.

I went down this road once, and we have earned some BAT, but the company Brave partnered with makes you do a full dox to withdraw. Maybe I'll take one for the team, but it's a huge turn off.

Yeah, I like the idea of BAT but this was the biggest issue with them for me also.

Yeah it really sabotages the whole thing, wtf. It sounds epic on paper.

Unfortunately, it looks like that's the future for crypto, period.. Their argument is..

How do they know who you are? You can be using the currency for terrorism, money laundering, etc. More and more exchanges are adopting KYC & AML regulations, and more states are making it necessary. To the point where it defeats the purpose of cryptocurrency's original intent lol.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/what-crypto-exchanges-do-to-comply-with-kyc-aml-and-cft-regulations

"Part of the United States Department of Treasury, hinted that AML compliance will be fundamental to the stability of crypto exchanges in the coming years: 'We will hold accountable foreign-located money transmitters, including virtual currency exchangers, that do business in the United States when they willfully violate US AML laws.'"

"Yaya Fanusie, the director of analysis for the U.S. Foundation for Defense of Democracies Center (FDD), earlier in September 2018, told the U.S. Congress that terrorist organizations aren't using cryptocurrency as a funding vehicle. However, the U.S. House of Representatives, on Sept. 26, passed a bill that would establish a task force to fight the use of cryptocurrencies by terrorist groups."

full dox to withdraw

F that shit.

Maybe I'll take one for the team

I'm no finance genius, but couldn't you form a trust and remain anonymous trustees, or whatever?

Isn't that how that works?

Cause... Saidit is owned by some dude in the British Virgin islands...

Yep... I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere...

This is unfortunately likely to be unavoidable from a legal perspective while retaining their model of collecting tips for a site before registration.

As usual blame government.

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I blame Brave too. This isn't the first shady thing that's gone on with BAT.

Edit:

It really looks like Brave made this call: https://community.brave.com/t/uphold-kyc-know-your-customer-verification-is-now-required-in-order-to-receive-bat-publisher-payouts/42035

Here on Uphold it says you don't need to verify unless your lifetime transactions are over $1000: https://uphold.com/en/blog/using-uphold-how-to-get-verified

A proposed Uphold alternative, that still requires identity verification: https://brave.com/brave-civic-partnership/

BAT is funded and founded by some Mozilla guys, so I don't know why I expected something better. I'm getting the impression that they're scared of the feds looking into BAT. If everyone insists on pressing the easy button, nothing good will ever happen ever.

Well, I hope you guys have been checking regardless! This is my second month sending you guys tips! If not, at least it'll be sitting in your creator's account hopefully acquiring more value lol!

Thank you IP2, and I will continue to try and never see any of your content on this site.

I am very happy we all have a free place to spew, however.

This is great news. Lets hope the upgrades brings less down time.

[–]Chipit 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Yeah, keep it that way, too. The moment you make yourself vulnerable by external funding is the moment they can stop you.

And look into bulletproof hosting. Maybe in some distant country. Saidit hasn't been noticed yet, but when it happens you can expect a reaction.

[–]Orangutan 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I think it already is hosted in a foreign country. I couldn't find the post about it though.

They were in Switzerland but I think the DDoS forced them to move on.

Nice man, thanks. I have that sub muted, but that's a pretty cool move to make or sentiment they did there.
