Saidit shouldn't be a copycat of Reddit, the voting system is so to avoid creating echo chambers where unpopular opinions are sent down to bottom.

If Saidit would bring nothing new to the table, why bother leaving Reddit?

Yup and that's the exact reason we got rid of them. They're not coming back, we are very happy with our 2-dimensional upvote system

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 8 insightful - 6 fun8 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 6 fun -  (35 children)

So you dont want anyone disagreeing on this site? Youre censoring peoples opinions by doing that.

      [–]idkwhatimseeking 17 insightful - 7 fun17 insightful - 6 fun18 insightful - 7 fun -  (5 children)

You could simply disagree by not giving your insightful/funny vote.

      [–]magnora7 23 insightful - 5 fun23 insightful - 4 fun24 insightful - 5 fun -  (3 children)

This, or by logically arguing your counter-point in the comments. Those are the two ways to disagree. A lot better than getting swarmed by anonymous downvotes for going against the hive-mind, like on reddit

      [–]Reddit_sucks_dick 8 insightful - 14 fun8 insightful - 13 fun9 insightful - 14 fun -  (2 children)

L..logi...logically arguing? I WANT MY LEDDIT!!

      [–]Undiscovered 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

See, that wasn't very insightful, but it was fun.

      [–]Reddit_sucks_dick 1 insightful - 4 fun1 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Oh, you want insightful, eh? I'll...get back to you later.

      [–]magnora7 16 insightful - 4 fun16 insightful - 3 fun17 insightful - 4 fun -  (23 children)

I invite disagreement as long as it follows the pyramid of debate. I just don't like being censored by downvotes from bots, and I don't think anyone does

      [–]Jesus 13 insightful - 3 fun13 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

      Never bring back downvoting.

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (21 children)

i have an idea how about if a comment gets downvoted it doesnt get censored? Simple solution. I dont want to have a debate everytime i disagree with someone especially when theyre just trolls and not genuine.

      [–]magnora7 15 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 2 fun -  (19 children)

Then just ignore them and move on. The lack of an upvote is a downvote on saidit

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 2 insightful - 6 fun2 insightful - 5 fun3 insightful - 6 fun -  (18 children)

Why are you guys trying to be different, youre not going to grow your site by doing stuff like this. People come here because they were kicked off reddit and when they see the voting system is completely different they get turned off and go to a different site. The way reddit is setup is perfect, you dont need to make changes.

      [–]magnora7 22 insightful - 11 fun22 insightful - 10 fun23 insightful - 11 fun -  (5 children)

We seem to be doing just fine, thanks for the input though

      [–]Reddit_sucks_dick 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

      reddit is setup is perfect,

Which is why the cucked site is dying. I left yesterday for good, after many happy years of shitposting and frog-memeing.

      [–]beermeem 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

      [–]Chipit 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

and go to a different site.

      Which one?

      [–]Zizzle 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've never been banned from Reddit and I like the voting system here

      [–]JollyRunstride 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

i wish I could downvote this. This IS the way reddit was originally setup...look at subsequent product

      [–][deleted] 9 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

I dont want to have a debate everytime i disagree with someone especially when theyre just trolls and not genuine.

Waaa please facilitate my intellectual laziness... you're not so smart that your feeling that the person is wrong or a troll should be enough to mean anything.. and when people see a lot of downvotes they mistakenly do think it means anything.

      [–]Jesus 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

DISAGREEMENT, DOES NOT = the AMOUNTS OF DOWNVOTES. Disagreement means I disagree with your assessment or viewpoint and so I must counter your view with logic and critical thinking. You must do the same. This isn't reddit. Not having a downvote does not = censorship. Actually, it serves the opposite purpose.

      [–]PM_ME_DARKNESS_LEWDS 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

You disagree by commenting, not pushing the "Displeased" button and moving on

      [–]Reddit_sucks_dick 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You can still comment on the comment, for example 'u r dum', etc.

      [–]Divine_Lotus 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Have you ever gotten censored? have ever gotten downvoted to smithereens? How about ever seeing a good post that was automatically downvoted? Don't forget bots that downvote

      [–]cheesepastry 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If the fun button isn't supposed to be a downvote perhaps it'd be better to put it side by side with the lightbulb. I thought it was a downvote this whole time.

      [–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Not a bad idea, we've thought about it before but then it makes the numbers a little more difficult to display clearly on the main page. We might try it out your way someday

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 2 insightful - 8 fun2 insightful - 7 fun3 insightful - 8 fun -  (5 children)

This site should definitely be a reddit copycat, the main reason people go to this site is because of reddit censorship. The voting system on this site is garbage, downvoting is a very important feature.

      [–]Reddit_sucks_dick 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

In a hurry to deploy your bot-army, are ya?

      [–]beermeem 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

      No, it’s not.

      [–]Jesus-Christ 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Downvoting is what's contributing to the shit state Reddit is in, views that don't adhere to the typical Reddit hive mind get mass downvoted into oblivion. Regardless, I'd rather put up with this voting system as opposed to biased admins and echo chambers that push bullshit narratives.

      [–]Divine_Lotus 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

instead of describing something as garbage, which isn't insightful or easy to understand, will you please explain, in a constructive or educational matter:

why it's a problem for you with evidence that many people have the same problem with this, if there's any

what makes you believe in such a thing, with evidence of the problem to prove your point,

consider any pros and cons to your solution

and explain reasonable solutions that may be proven from successful platforms?

Also see if this 'issue' you believe is actually something that is a better.

So far, from what I've seen, there's not a lot of complaints and most likely those who don't like it simply aren't comfortable with new design or features and may be blind to the benefits of the idea, especially to prevent more problems in the future

      [–]Zap_Powerz 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

why is downvoting a very important feature?

      [–]qx4chenxp 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I can't downvote so I'll just tell you:
      Ur downvotable.

      [–]christine_grab 24 insightful - 7 fun24 insightful - 6 fun25 insightful - 7 fun -  (15 children)

I much prefer this voting system over Reddit's. One of the things that drove me crazy about Reddit was the hive-mind of subs. If your opinion differed from the hive, you were downvoted to oblivion. At Reddit, the popular information was considered the correct information, facts be damned! This caused a lot of people there to believe bad info to be true.

I truly believe sites like Reddit are contributing to a break-down of society because people cannot discern "popular" from "fact." The sci-fi series The Orville did a great episode about this; I think it was Season 1, Episode 7: Majority Rule, where death sentences were determined by how many up and down votes the suspect got instead of a trial.

      [–]idkwhatimseeking 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

      I agree with you.

I also love The Orville. The whole show was thought provoking, yet humorous. That episode actually solidified my opinion that people on Reddit are stupid lol. Watching The Orville got me crushing on Seth MacFarlane so much... funny AND smart? :o

      [–]FormosaOolong 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Hilariously and ironically apt for this thread, I got downvoted to oblivion for expressing a positive view of The Orville on Reddit.

      [–]idkwhatimseeking 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

What? No way! The Orville was soo good. I can't wait for the new season. People will downvote anything. "Oh.. you like a show that I didn't care for much? That's a downvote for you.."

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 4 insightful - 6 fun4 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 6 fun -  (11 children)

i understand what youre saying but i still prefer having the downvote button, if you cant handle being downvoted create your own sub with other like minded individuals.

      [–]christine_grab 23 insightful - 3 fun23 insightful - 2 fun24 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

If I had a downvote button, I would have downvoted you for disagreeing with me, and a few other people would, too. Then your comment wouldn't show up at all because it had a negative vote count. It's a good thing that my opinion isn't able to trample your opinion -- not just for this discussion, but it's for the good of society in general that dissenting view points cannot be crushed.

      [–]Jesus 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

christine_grab couldn't have said it better.

      [–]FormosaOolong 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

      indeed!

      [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

if you downvoted me i would be fine with that, you still saw what i said thats the important part. If people agree with me they would have negated your downvote by upvoting me. You need people to disagree otherwise this whole site is just a huge circle jerk

      [–][deleted] 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Counter argue with words instead of a downvote.. if your counter argument is superior and more people agree with you, your counter argument will get more upvotes. Words/comment require logic+articulation.. downvotes only require emotions.

EDIT: Also wanna say what this guy said is so true... i think the fact that every comment/post is a battle between upvotes and downvotes can't help but give people the feeling that popularity is what matters and therefore the popular vote is automatically right.

        [–]Jesus 7 insightful - 5 fun7 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

DIsagreements can ONLY BE KNOWN by the click of a downvote.

        [–]Jesus 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No it's not, it allows people to read and see what others are saying without bias. The downvoting was absurd on reddit. A disagreement does not mean we ought to downvote the other person. Counter the points with logic instead.

        [–]C3P0 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Downvotes sink your post to the bottom on Reddit. In the Reddit system, initial votes are more important than later votes because that is what determines if your post will rise to the top or sink to the bottom. It is a huge problem; and as we can see many platforms are doing away with downvotes all-together (e.g. Youtube, Facebook).

        [–]Justin 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If needing a downvote button is this important to you, you're more than welcome to start your own reddit clone that has it.

        [–]FormosaOolong 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Have you considered that not-voting can be used as a kind of downvote? Stuff with no votes eventually kind of disappears. But yeah, you don't get that little frisson of fake internet satisfaction of having thrown a virtual turd at someone.

        [–]felisc 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

It's not a downvote and it's not supposed to be. You can upvote posts in two different ways.

        [–]shadow_wolf7[S] 2 insightful - 9 fun2 insightful - 8 fun3 insightful - 9 fun -  (10 children)

so downvotes dont exist? I already hate this sjw site, you sensitive bitches cant handle a downvote?

        [–][deleted] 17 insightful - 4 fun17 insightful - 3 fun18 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

How do you not see that all downvoting does is facilitate groupthink? You see other people agree with you that a comment is bad so you feel justified in dismissing it and even insulting that person(happens all the time on Reddit). People downvote out of being emotional, it's the lazy way to dismiss an argument.

I guess another thing downvoting does is canceling out other people's upvotes which i don't see why that's important... i think that's more similar to sjw culture because it reminds me of the whole cancelling stuff. Other people enjoy stuff you don't enjoy so what? Everybody needs to see and hear that you don't like it as if that's so important.

        [–]felisc 11 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Downvotes are lazy and literally create circlejerks. How not having circlejerks is being like sjws i have no idea

        [–]Jesus 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You are free to leave if you hate this so-called "SJW" site so much. You seem to be far more sensitive to not being able to downvote than anyone else here who is neutral on not having the downvote. Not having the downvote allows people to debate without having a preconceived vie wof the poster. Plus, shills cannot downvote posters into oblivion, which was a notorious trend on Reddit, espeically with the conspiracy crowd.

        [–]Chipit 9 insightful - 6 fun9 insightful - 5 fun10 insightful - 6 fun -  (2 children)

This is a SJW site? Uhhh...

OK either this account is deliberately trolling for outraged responses, or is a complete idiot. I am missing Reddit Enhancement Suite's ability to put custom tags on users because I'm going to forget this guy and it's not good that I do.

        [–][deleted] 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Don't be like him and dismiss people by calling them trolls... i have a similar feeling he's on the slow side, but how can you blame him for being slow?

        [–]Undiscovered 3 insightful - 6 fun3 insightful - 5 fun4 insightful - 6 fun -  (0 children)

It's about preventing brigading. Maybe you can just rename fun vote to downvote in CSS?

        [–]beermeem 4 insightful - 5 fun4 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

sjw site lol. we hate you too.

        [–]WebcomicAddiction 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I tried so hard, and got so far But in the end - i was too fat of a troll.

Regarding the downvote. Don't get me wrong, I love to downvote people as a "fuck you". But.. this system has a lot of potential. Eliminating the downvote allows people with differing opinions to be heard.. no matter how shitty their opinion is. Once you get to -1 in downvotes, it turns into a domino and it's all downhill from there. There are just too many simple minded people that downvote without giving it any thought.. once they see that you're already negative. It's stupid. Not that I personally care to get downvoted, but I see it as a means to hide an unpopular opinion. A form of silencing in a way. I'm not cool with that. This system pushes insightful/funny comments and posts to the top to better be seen. But, it still allows lesser posts/comments to remain intact so that it has a fair chance to gain some traction.

Although.. I think the insightful and funny vote needs better aesthetics or something (including the banner). The lightbulb isn't as bad.. but the damn smile face is so god damn awful. It's unacceptable. At first glance, it's hard to take the site seriously, it's like.. what is this, some kiddie shit? I almost left the site because I thought the smiley face looked stupid lol. It's also appears faded.. like.. not trying to be a dick, but it looks like amateur work. Appearances mean everything, and Saidit's appearance needs a total rework. It should look sleek and sophisticated. It should reflect the type of people who frequent this site. Send a message that we are progressive people.

I got a lot of opinions on the visuals if anybody wants me to go more in depth.

        [–][deleted] 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (9 children)

We almost got new voting icons a couple of weeks ago, but the guy flaked at the last minute. If you want to hunt down better icons, we'll certainly consider them.

Flat and colorless would be better imo.

        [–]idkwhatimseeking 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

I'll see what I can find. Not sure if I'd find anything though.

        [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

No worries, we'll probably find something similar to these: https://imgur.com/a/5CqtQJg

        [–]idkwhatimseeking 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (5 children)

I hate to say it.. I don't like these icons either. I know my opinion doesn't really matter.. but, can I still look into it? Just in case I do find something that jives with everyone.

        [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

How about these? Go here https://www.nerdfonts.com/cheat-sheet and search for the words on the left:

        • smile - fun (shows 2)
        • bulb - insightful (shows 6)
        • pulse - insightful?
        • thought - insightful?

        [–]idkwhatimseeking 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Hmm... I just got a couple good ideas.. it's a bit much tonight, but I'll speak my mind tomorrow. I gotta get some rest :)

I like this icon. It is nice and clean. Input "nf-oct-flame" into the search box of that website you linked.

I sent (you) /u/d3rr and /u/magnora7 a PM. This comment is just for context on where the PMs are coming from.

        [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That flame does look nice. I guess it could work as the insightful button amongst other things...

        [–]JollyRunstride 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

        ugh! those are terrible

        [–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It simply makes it about the quality of the counter argument and not about the amount of people who disagree. Seems like a massive plus to me. Like u/christine_grab said, so many people put waaay too much stock in what the majority thinks on Reddit. I guess that's the logical thing to do for people not confident in themselves.

        [–]Jesus 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly, which means people will focus more on the pyramid of debate. Unfortunately this place isn't free for shills or fools to post fallacies all day. You will eventually get deleted if you use ad hominems, it is that simple.

I sometimes read the CoDOh Revisionist forums, and you'd think Holocaust revisionist forums would be filled with honeypots and shills, but that isn't the case, why? Because of the rules:

Whilst I'm not saying Saidit should follow CoDoh rules, they do provide the userbase the ability to debate and learn without encountering fallacies. If these sort of rules existed in Saidit subs, like a revisionist forum it would prevent shills tremendously.

Here are some of CoDoh's rules:

        Note:

By default, this software collects IP numbers. However, that portion of the software has been disabled, visitors to the site now have an IP number of 0.0.0.0. This was done as a precaution against the police states that are prevalent throughout Europe (Austria, Germany, France, Russia, etc.).

        • By default, we do not make 'Private Messages' (PM) available to new registrants.

        Rules/Guidelines

        • Do not register under more than one username, aka: a 'sockpuppet'. If for some reason you wish to change your username please contact the Moderator and / or Webmaster about doing so.

        • No name calling, period. (Ad hominems)

        • The CODOH Revisionist Forum forbids any threats or personal attacks against others. We're about debate and only debate.

        • On topic posts only.

          • That means debating credibility of a post, or lack of, is the reason that The CODOH Revisionist Forum exists. Associated subjects are bound to come up, be sure there is a tie-in, show the tie-in. Each topic represents a separate point, a post to a topic must be pertinent to that point.
        • Posts by new or infrequent participants will be spam / troll checked by the Moderator before they appear on the Forum. They will not be censored for on topic opinions they present.

        • Keep your threads / posts limited to one point. (Sort of harash)

          • If you post a quote or link from or to a book, a news article, magazine story, another website, etc., you must also comment on the quote or the link content. Tell the forum what you find wrong, compelling, unique, or important about the quote or link content. Flippant, overly brief comments are not acceptable. We want commentary and discussion.
        • Posts which lack focus or specifics are not welcomed.

        • No 'dodging'. When questioned or challenged on claims, or assertions you make in a thread you must respond directly / specifically by providing the information requested in the challenge or you must leave the topic.

THis was what I hated most about reddit. Downvoting someone into oblivion without countering anything.

True. True. I originally thought that not having a dv button was a bad idea. But after pondering on it for a bit, I quickly realized that there are so many positive reasons for not having one. And everybody defending the decision has some really great reasonings to back it up.

Wow, people think the smiley face means "downvote"? Seriously?

Yeah, that's not what it means.

        imagine having 2 upvotes

bruh you got thisone wrong... this sytem is so much better than reddit.

If you dislike it, leave this site. This system works and is way better than a crappy downvote which in like reddit scenario, ends up censoring more people by being mass downvoted on political subreddits etc. It's not about being a "bitch", it's about having a healthy debate without ruining it by spamming downvote everytime you disagree.

Just do what I do and acknowledge that certain posts don't even deserve the dignity of remaining in your browser's history, like I almost did with this one before I fucked up and responded to this retarded drivel.

Checkout https://dissent.cx if you want a alternative more similar to the reddit model but without the censorship

        Go back to reddit.

Long before reddit started mass censorship it always had a problem with hivemind mass downvoting people. r/circlejerk existed as a much more popular community back in 2010 because lampooning the hivemind was something resditors commonly did. But now with reddit thouroughly divided in 2, along with the censorship, the hivemind is actually a now a reddit staple instead of a joke.

        Downvotes arent a good thing.

Looks like someone wants their echo chamber.... AGAIN.

Although no downvote is a good thing, turning it into a second upvote does seem retarded. It is like a lazy code hack especially when each type of vote applies 2 votes instead of 1.

The responses to this are fucking gold and the reason I just now made my account. I feel secure enough to disagree with people via text instead of the wrongthink button.

I really get tired of people championing diversity, but when they encounter it in real life they shit on it.

I don't use 'fun" as a DV clone, I use it if a post or comment is funny.....am I doing it wrong?
