I have a bot that alerts me when certain things are mentioned on Reddit. We used it in WPD to track brigades and such, since Admins done fuck all about that. One such ping sent me to r/FortniteBR... Where I discovered the link in question.

Folk have been a bit iffy about TenCent throwing cash at Reddit - Myself included, unashamedly in the 'Fuck Epic' camp for what they did to my fav game, Paragon - but this... THIS is a blatant cash grab!

So why aren't they doing this for, say, r/HighQualityGifs or r/Photoshopbattles? Y'know, folk that actually create content instead of "me play games gud" and now, seemingly, get a "tip" for it? Is the same option available for r/ApexLegends or r/DestinyTheGame?

Of course it's not. Disgusting IMO.

Hi everyone, 👋 admin here. I wanted to let you know about an experiment that we’re running in this subreddit. Starting today, users in r/FortniteBR can support a few creators and the community by tipping some posts and comments. This feature allows you to support their efforts.

What happens to my tip?

The creator gets 60% of the tip, the community gets ~20%, and Reddit ~20%. Payment processing fees (~3%) are split between Reddit’s portion and the community’s portion. The community's portion goes to a common pool of funds that will be initially managed by the top mod (removed to avoid witchhunting). He has the support and trust of the other moderators to spend this fund on the community (eg: organizing contests and running bots). We expect to change how the community's portion is distributed and managed in the coming months. Our long term vision is to create a mechanism for all community members to participate in managing the community pool. Tip payments are handled entirely by Stripe and we don’t store any of your personal or payment information.

Who can receive tips?

During this test, creators need to be approved by Reddit to receive tips. If you are a creator and interested in enabling tipping for your content, fill out this Google Form. Right now it's enabled for a handful of creators but we will likely add more.

What else?

Tipping is currently only available on the redesign. We are working on adding it to other platforms. These features are opt-in only. We are adding tipping in this community because the moderators opted in. We will not add it to any other communities without enthusiastic support of their moderators. Finally, over the course of the next several months, we will be developing additional features for this subreddit so stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime, let us and the mods know in the comments below if you have ideas on how the community's portion of funds could be used, or if you have creators you’d like to be able to tip.
