Yes they can and do shadowban voting on some accounts and possibly for only certain subreddits. Check your votes on Reddit in private browser or incognito mode to see if they registered. Reddit is filled with sneaky evil manipulation

I hadn't paid attention to the same magnitude that you are, but I no longer believe that upvotes/downvotes matter in the slightest. I am on reddit, but I just read comments and submissions and then hide them when I'm done with them.

Reddit is an extremely popular platform and it appears to have been almost 100% taken over. It's curated content at this point, especially anything having to do with politics. And the Chinese coronavirus.

That's my point for the post I suppose, and the reason I'm here more than there these days.

My friend asked me about this and there’s no way she’s shadowbanned. This is definitely my experience (wouldn’t be shocked if I’m shadow banned). I just assumed that they made the algorithm so deep that it’s now all just some vague guesstimate and/or they get that people do exactly what you are doing and specifically fuzz that type of user testing.

I’m certain there are people FAR more obsessive about figuring out the algorithm than you and I don’t 100% blame the site for staying one step ahead of the user for that. At the same time, it’s obvious that a significant amount of the content is manipulated to the whims of ownership so I really don’t angst about it much.

It’s their site and they can do what they want with it. Just so as everyone understands that (not saying most people do). At this point, it’s all just rather dishonest. I think the days of the slashdot model may just be coming to a close. Someone will come up with a more individual user-tailored solution.

True, I would like to agree here.

But they are running a site that is under the guise of being totally created by the public, and sorted/voted on by the public.

This skews the perception by the user base, and at this point, is pretty hard pressed to not be considered targeted propaganda.

They need to make their manipulation guideline, techniques, and frequency known in order to not be such.
