The Hill youtube channel has a daily youtube news program. This week there were 2 new hosts and the right wing host really hit me with some interesting analysis of the left. This is rare for me because the vast majority of the time people have no clue what the difference between left and right means so they just speak nonsense. Getting past that, when they do understand, the criticisms end up being extremely vapid so i was impressed with her commentary. I'm sharing it here because i think the analysis relates directly to us and how gay rights have morphed into a crazy culture war.
The first bit was on Tuesday. I copied over her comments to be easier to read on this forum. She is talking to her left leaning co-host.
My impression is that when some of these activists who join these campaigns hear Bernie Sanders say “it's not about us it's about them”, they think that they really do represent “them”. They think that them going out there and saying “Latinx” is really representing people and that's what people want and that's real social justice.
This is a in reference to a group of "activists" who nearly ruined Sanders' campaign in Iowa by trying to derail the entire thing over claims the campaign should not have any organizational structure. They got hired to go knock on doors and then demanded to be in charge of everything. This is the exact type of narcissistic asshole that ends up on Twitter asserting undeserved authority and knowledge over people who were actually there fighting for gay rights for decades. It's a clear infection of the left in general that we allow these type of people to call shots at all.
It's also the reason it's so hard to fight back against the narrative because you have people thinking they are fighting for a righteous cause by pushing the "TQ+" narrative. The "TQ+" is kind of like the "Latinx" of gay rights. It's a contrived forced narrative and anyone who doesn't follow the "educated" line is looked upon with contempt.
She goes on:
And what's so interesting to me is that these people in so many ways are not socialists. They do not want democratic socialism because it wouldn't be good for them. They're just cultural radicals that don't realize they are part of the neoliberal cooptation of cultural leftism.
I try to point this out in terms of left vs right all the time but it's interesting coming from her using it about "socialists." I think it's purely narcissism. They just claim socialism as a tool to get more for themselves but the moment any of them gets power they hoard all of it for themselves while continuing to claim all forms of oppression. It's EXACTLY how liberalism/neoliberalism works on an economic level but they are using it on a social level... ie socialize the losses and privatize the gains.
For us gay rights is a positive/gain but for them it is a negative/loss because it does not directly give them power. Our rights of moving towards equality distracts from their goal of being the center of the universe. They socialize the cultural gains of gay rights onto their own social clout by joining the alphabet soup then convince everyone to view us as "LGBTQ" instead of gays who want nothing from society other than to be treated equally. They convince everyone that gays, in fact, are actually oppressors and that the "TQ+" side is fare more important as they privatize the social clout given by sympathetic liberals.
and here we are and I have to imagine it's a total mess on your side.
Yes, understatement of the century.
If you are interested in hearing her comments head over to 9:30 in this video: https://youtu.be/ntE0BYPbeAA
It's rather long though and i tend to listen to this as a podcast while driving.
The other less relevant video this week was her criticism of the "left" going nuts over "antitrans" laws being passed here: https://youtu.be/HTsRDysS56o
It's not a direct quote but a general statement about how the left acts like they are innocent in the culture war issues. She understates how much the right wing politicians also love it but it's really true how much these cultural radicals LARPing as leftists instigate so much of the culture war issue. In this example they try to disrupt the entire culture by forcing girls in high school to play sports against boys then scream about a right wing culture war when the right says "no". She says "progressives" but it's hard to call this progress. It's more like chaos for the sake of chaos and then climbing to the top of the ash pile.
