Internet Refugees Come From All Over

Greetings. wahala here.

Saidit seems to be the place for internet refugees seeking a saner, online home for interesting links and discussion, which is good because I've been looking for a place like this.

I'm not a reddit refugee, however. In fact, I have never had an account there. I lurked for years, but mostly stopped after they killed some subreddits under Pao's reign. In 2015, I moved onto Voat. After Trump's election, that place was no longer for me. I got the impression it had honey-potted, or at the very least, was full of paid shills, foreign & domestic, and gov't spooks trying to stir up social problems. I'm just too old for that.

Well, time to settle in and start becoming part of this community. Pitter patter.

    Agreed. It was edgy in a cool way five years ago, but now it just seems like a competition on who can say the most crass and offensive thing. I totally get you on the shoehorning. Not everything is political, nor does everything need to be. Nice to meet you, JFVG. :)

    Said thing is at the beginning when it was unknown voat was a great little community. It was really a lot like original reddit with most posts about tech and video games and you could actually have a lot of good convos there. Actually, it was a lot like saidit is right now tbh.

    Where they went wrong was taking in the real stormfront nazi sympathizes because now every second post on voat is about Jews. It’s kinda sad actually.

        I totally gotcha and agree about social media and message boards, but sometimes at Voat (now, not at first), I would read the front page and feel like I was the only actual human there, unpaid human anyway. It all just seems to internet-theatre. Really fake.

          Its true. I once got banned on reddit right, and when I made another account it got instantly banned in matter of seconds and I hadnt even posted anything there. So I made another account again and got the same result. Those motherfuckers are definetely data mining.
