The modern world has an odd obsession with imperfection and flaws. Whereas classical artists sought to depict humanity as close to perfection as possible, the modern world finds disease, illness, and disabilities to be far more alluring.

You're correct about the obsession part. As for me, I'm happy to have both idealized and subversive art. This is one place where I have to break from Ayn Rand, who seemed to believe that art could be judged by Objectivist analysis, at least to some degree.

Anyway, this dollhouse is only art in the sense that it is the product of human conception brought into a tangible form. It undoubtedly was designed by committee, rather than being the vision of an individual artist. As such, I imagine it is an impure representation of its original concept. After all, it must be salable right?

This was probably the recommendation of a PR agency.

It gives Barbie a better image, and Mattel gets PR coverage.

This is money well-spent for Mattel. There are plenty of examples of this.

I'm pragmaticly leftish, so I can certainly relate to this well-intentioned message.

Unfortunately, the facts don't agree with lofty idealism.

Virtually every human if the planet would increase the level if attractiveness of their mate; if they could. Anyone stating otherwise is being polite.

the modern world finds disease, illness, and disabilities to be far more alluring.

Every human on the planet would eliminate/ameliorate the disease, illness, and disabilities that affects their mate.
I would question the motives of anyone who did not feel this way.

Keep your sister away from the guy who is allured by the diseased and disabled...
