What do you think Social Media will be like in 10 years and beyond?

After the ChCh event, censorship is being raised left right and centre for differing reasons. I'm curious as to know what folk think it will be like in a decade.

Personally I reckon Anonymity will be tossed, with real names attached to usernames as parts of ToS. Maybe not in 10 years but it's a feel I can't shake.

I think what you said will happen, but I think at the same time a decentralized and peer-hosted web will develop, that cannot be shut down or censored. Then they'll start calling it "the dark web" and try to split the internet in half. Eventually they'll try to make internet in to a controlled medium like TV. I doubt they'll succeed in full though.

Apt, and sadly I can see that happening. Who got Cable years ago with the promise of ad free tv? Now look at it.

Ever heard of Facebook or Quora? This type of thing has existed for a while, causing me to avoid several social networks, as I prefer not to use my legal name even in real life due to, well, never having been called by it and it being less gender-neutral than what I am usually called, among other reasons. It's not even just about Anonymity for me; my online identity is as important, if not more important, than my meatspace one, and also pretty heavily connected to it; rather, I just don't want to be forced to use a legal name I currently can't change.

In ten years? That's long after the 5G rollout, and the subsequent addition of NeuroNet Implants. They're a neurocannular technology that allow you to jack your brain directly into the TopWeb for free. To dive deeper, you need more.....specialized implants. Little pearls of code inserted into strategic points of the body; Like the eggs of a parasitic wasp.

Social media will become what it was meant to be. Social media will become the very bane of free speech. It was created with the intentions to bring together old friends and like minded individuals. It will become a war zone, as it was meant to be. I have been on various social media sites, as well as random chat platforms and its all the same to me these days. Its one side vs the other.

The days of sharing your cats, dogs, babies will be long gone. It will be about spreading your ideology, in an infinite web of people either agreeing to some point or disagreeing for the sake of being "different".

Social media has always been the malong of an internet civil war. You see it on facebook, you see it on YouTube, you see it on Reddit, you see it on Meet me.

Opinions will clash and sparks will fly. Until the human race is wither divided or lead into agreement by some popular opinion.

I know it a kind of intense but that's what it will become. In my opinion
