UA =/= fingerprints.

/u/RaverJodes I think it's better to learn how they're tracking you first, and then apply the appropriate measures. Try removing cookies and using a VPN first. Fingerprints are used for statistics, but I don't think they use them to detect ban evasion, they may not be reliable enough.

Also, why do you want to participate there anyway? If they ban you, it's their loss.

I tried the whole cookies/VPN thing. Unfortunately Reddit is very valuable to me, I don't know anywhere that compares in terms of the number of targeted people you can reach. They're a fucking monopoly and have killed off competition

That's odd, if those two measures aren't enough. Have you tried changing your IP address and switching to a different browser?

What does the website tell you anyway? Explicitly that they're detecting a ban evasion? It may just be that your VPN is blocked.

It works for a couple of weeks then I get banned, reason ban evasion. I'm wondering if they do natural language processing or stuff like that to identify users. Whatever it is they do, it's extremely sneaky and high tech. They've obviously ploughed a lot of money into detecting ban evasion. Anal bastards. Draconian fucks

Reddit will have his android Mac address amongst other things. A better, and more expensive way to do it is to dump Apple or Android and use a Linux phone and using a VPN. Once you log in to Reddit however, Javascript and cookies hit your device, and I'm not sure they can't trace your source IP. You'll definitely need to clear all that crap out when you look out of their site every single time.

Untrue. MAC addresses don't reach a web server, and the Reddit app does not prompt for authorization of any privilege that would let it even see your MAC address, much less transmit it to them.

How do you know this? Glowies inhabit social media.

I worked professionally in mobile development for several years.

Then why do various privacy linux distributions spoof Mac addresses?

Presumably they are trying to secure against devices listening on the same subnet. After all, the wireless router in your house needs to know how to deliver packets to you. It needs you MAC address, and it associates it with the synthetic IP address you get on your own network (10.11.. or 192.168..). The MAC address does not propagate beyond that network, though.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I realize it doesn't propagate: a hacker breaking in can possibly get access to it. Otherwise, why worry about spoofing it. With computers and cellphones it's different, because you are connecting to websites with data gathering technology.

Just stop making up bullshit already.

How the heck is Reddit supposed to get his Mac address?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

They can read whatever the OS let's them have. Cellphones are tracked this way, and is known as IEMI address. You'd really have to examine what they're installing on your machine and the network traffic going back and forth. Check out Rob Braxman on YouTube, Rumble and Odysee for this. Android/Google and Apple phone all spy on you, and so does Windows.

Do you have a specific source on the websites you're visiting gathering your MAC address? That's the part I call BS on, it's never been used that way. Public wifi networks could use it for tracking, but that's different and it isn't going to be much use, because recent Android versions use a randomized MAC address by default.

IEMI is used to identify your phone when using the cellular network. This is probably used to track your movement, which you can circumvent by putting your phone in airplane mode. Anyway, you're clearly conflating things.

The Feds can get access to such things, and to be honest they're embedded on the darknet and the clearnet. I don't have any proof that they can see it on Reddit and other places, but I'm assuming 1) law enforcement is active on the internet and 2) they have the tools both physically and legally to obtain it.

If the Feds and private corporations can get your phone number when you call a private company, then that too can be used to track you. The IEMI number is hard-coded into every phone, so why wouldn't Feds want to track that information?

In regards to a computer's MAC: that too can be tracked, because Tails and other Linux distros randomize and spoof it. My own home router has this functionality too. If hackers can get this, then so can government forces.

You are not making much sense. The NSA may be able to access your MAC address, but the randomization makes it useless for tracking, and even if it isn't randomized, it can only be used to track your movement. The subject was tracking your web activity. Reddit doesn't come into play at all in this story.

How do you know what Reddit sees or doesn't see? You realize governments have influenced that site, don't you? There were people here who said they were banned even with new devices and stuff. They have a variety of ways to determine who you are.

Proton VPN from Switzerland?

[–]RaverJodes[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Nah that just changes the IP, plus Reddit penalise you for using their IPs since they're associated with heavy spam and often shadow ban you off the bat, plus give you 10 minute delays between posts

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

i cannot udp trace route reddit, either. They're really paranoid. lmao.

Have you tried resetting your advertising ID? Settings -> Privacy -> Ads.

I don't have any issues circumventing my numerous reddit bans, just have my AD ID deleted and switch up browsers: Chrome, Brave, & DDG.

I do. Reddit somehow always track my. Fucking cunts are like a dog with a fucking bone. They even track me between devices and across IP addresses. Persistent Chinese cunts
