I see it as an extra step that would be discouraging. The current method for making and using accounts is much quicker than at some other sites. The extra email verification step should reduce the number of fake accounts. Options to submit posts, vote and comment could also be delayed 24-hours.

Yeah, it might deter some, but not Loki; he'll do anything for attention, like a toddler — a devil-worshipping toddler. I bet it'll shut down the Americans bot for a few days, though. If we ban email addresses along with users, it would make it a bit harder to spam than just asking them to click a link on any old email.

Requiring an email address would also help at making sure u/Basghetti doesn't lose her account again. LOL

A 24 hour wait to post would help, along with a badge that identifies new users for the first two weeks. The badge timer starts running with the first post.

The point is not to deter them thought. It's to slow their productivity down. If it reduce his spamming speed by 20%, that's more free times for you and the rest of the admins to clear their spams.

I doubt email verification for voting will work. As /u/TheAmerliaMay said, they'll just make accounts to fulfill that function. It's better to simply skip using the "hot" tab, and go straight to the "new" tab, or the subs you're interested in. Maybe even send pm's to folks you're acquainted with posts you've found of interest, if up voting hasn't gotten them more visibility.

However, the question general forum users should be asking themselves is what posts are actual people making that the leftoids and corporate shills need to brigade and up vote distraction posts to dominate the "hot" tab.

    I reacall - if I remember correctly - /u/magnora7 counting 400 alt accounts some time ago, with numerous new accounts each day, and the substantial work of banning these accounts every day by 3 admins (a new admin was introduced recently).
