I use "Video DownloadHelper" on WaterFox (Firefox variant)
with the companion app, I can download almost everything.

I don't recall why I turned it off in Brave. I'll remember to try it now when something tough comes along.

I had it on Firefox until v56 when I had to change browsers.

I've had WaterFox installed for years but it never worked, though I kept updating it (with an app). One of the recent versions finally works, but I'm scared to use it because I don't know what happened in the first place.

I'm really looking forward to Libre Browser and Libre Wolf.

Age restrictions are censorship now? You guys have gone off the rails.

Some people are brainwashed and brain dead. Since when are age restrictions-you can easily circumvent censorship? SaidIt is an echo chamber full with special snowflakes who got rejected from r/conspiracy. I could post here my grandmas favorite applepie recipe and some of them will see evidence of the Deep State, bring in sex trafficking, the fucking Left, Antifa, Hilary, Jews, blacks, women.

This site is becoming a joke. SaidIt is turning into Voat 2.0. An echo chamber for angry white men. The pyramid of debate is a joke and rarely enforced. Half of the comments are people whining about Jews, niggers, women. Low effort posts like "Fuck the Jews", "Dirty Niggers" are not flagged for violating the pyramid of debate rules. Accepted and relevant sources are Breitbart, blogs, youtube videos filmed from somebodies basement, random websites.

I joined a year ago, thinking that this site will be different. I was naive. It's kinda worse than reddit because conspiracy agents are running wild and unchecked on this site. Always the same 5 guys posting their paranoia fantasies. Half of the front page are lies, low effort articles, propaganda and hate posts.

It's interesting to see how the influx of another group of snowflakes-white women will change the culture of SaidIt.

Ok ash, noted. We will talk to mossad about your dissatisfaction

Another example of a low effort post. You just proved my point. Instead of debating my views you just posted something a passive-aggressive teen girl on her period would post.

I'm here to stay.

Revisiting my post I have to change it. I was to negative and it's all not too bad. I'm still here for a reason. If you are part of the club, the community over here is amazing. That's the good thing having a small, easily manageable member crowd. I don't know what the influx of reddit refugges will do to us. I really hope that we will never change, except for moving in the right direction.

I still got that stalker on my ass. Nevermind, I'm a big girl who can deal with stalkers. It's almost flattering. Just another excample how the mods are lacking. Stalker boy doesn't contribute or is trying to converse according to the Pyrimade of proper discourse.

I see us failing like Voat.

    Congratulations on your stalker!

As for failing like voat, M7 is certainly emulating the last days of Putt. But I was glad to have saidit to fall back on after voat suicided.

Poal turned out to run by petty tyrants. Especially that 'AOC'. Was kind of bad here too while the teenage tranny was an admin, but at least that part has improved.

    That recipe is antisemitic

I hate to agree with this lot, but they actually have a point; reducing accessibility to certain videos, as with here, effectively censors them. Many people aren't willing to let Google track them, and that's not a point on which they should be expected to compromise, ever.

Of course, I'm a little happy about it, because now I have an excuse they'll accept to not watch seven hours of how metal's solid phase has the same physical properties regardless of temperature, and this “fact”'s implication's on last decade's US politics. But I want to resist it for two reasons:

    • Google isn't likely to stop at the people I don't like; for them, the Schnelling point is “doing anything at all”. Google cares about its profits more than anything.
    • Hundreds of duplicate copies are flooding other video platforms and making it hard to find good videos. (If I had a penny for every Plandemic II on NewTube…).

No, age restricting things that don't need restricting is off the rails. It's an excuse for soft censorship.

Though, I'll agree they should have been putting age restrictions on Internet things decades ago. But if they actually wanted to protect children, they wouldn't feed them lies, give them excessive vaccines, feed them shit food, poisoned water, and would use their illegal surveillance to actually do something about the child sex trafficking - but they're in charge of it all.

I recent questioned why Adam Curtis 2016 documentary Hypernormalisation had been changed to age restricted, as it makes it harder for people to view the video without being logged in. Many people will choose not to view the video, if it's made harder to view. It also enables youtube to track your data, and prevent you from viewing it in a private browser window.

There's you-get. That one also downloads the captions as an .srt file, which is useful for processing the videos, possibly to categorize them automatically. Although in my experience that entire client is unreliable under macOS. Maybe it's different under GNU.

For Android there's NewPipe (and NewPipe Legacy for Android 4.4 and below). If you happen to have a BlackBerry 10 phone, there's also a recently released Youtube client for that.

Also, you can scrape it from archive.org. There's a magic link:

    https://web.archive.org/web/2oe_/http://wayback-fakeurl.archive.org/yt/[VIDEO ID]

where you replace the last part with the video ID. If they have it, this redirects you to the video itself. If you have the skills, you can make a script out of this that mass downloads videos. It does create a session ID in Firefox, which complicates things a bit. Wget and curl both support session IDs, but I think it needs an accompanying browser addon. And it's probably better to have the browser addon do everything, so that it's more accessible. Someone should look into this.

Can confirm on NewPipe, works great using LineageOS.
