Probably when I built my first computer in highschool. It had a window on the side of the case, which was a rare sight back then. And I hand-cut and installed a window in the top of the case too. And blue cold cathode lighting inside, it was neat.

My first computer that I built is sitting on the floor next to me. I love Windows XP <3

Hurry up ReactOS and release a nice stable version!

I still have mine too, it's in a closet somewhere :) XP was nice. There is a part of me that still misses Windows 98 though too, it was so polished and straightforward

I know right? I look at windows now, taking up 50-100 GB. It's so insane and most of it is pointless bloat

Linux is super easy nowadays though, I'm switching over now that Win 7 is done for.

Oh and there was no endless random scanning of your computer, and forced updates and forced restarts. I hate that stuff so much, it makes me feel like I don't have control of my own computer

Linux is super easy to use and runs pretty much all windows programs. No need to wait for another project.

For me it was the Extended Basic add-on for my Texas Instruments TI-99/4A home computer. It was something like $135.

I guess I've always worked for better computer hardware? Although when I was making tons of money, I didn't have the best PC. I was too busy spending it... =P

Yeah that's the computer. It was about $400 when I got it in... 1981.

I come up with $1131, but yeah. Pretty cheap for one of the most powerful home computers at the time.

Of course, it had a whopping 16kb of memory, and you used a cassette tape (not included) to save programs. You could also buy an expansion box ($800) which you could fit with up to 64kb RAM (I don't remember what that went for), a floppy disk (ditto) and an insanely huge 5mb hard disk ($1500 or so IIRC).

I remember thinking, but who needs 5mb? What are you going to store on that, the entire world? And then what?

Nowadays you take a picture with your phone, that's 5mb. XD
